Do you think about petrol more now?
I have a ford ka. So it basically gets blown along by the wind. But £45 used to fill it to the neck, and i would drive about happy as larry. Now it takes nearly £60 and i find i don't drive as much anymore. I love driving and use to drive to the beach or forest every other day, but now i just drive to work (1.4 miles) and home. If i MUST go further i grump about it.
Anyone else?

I have a fuel card so I don't really think about fuel at all tbh. But it is unreal expensive in some places.

Like Mat I get mine paid for so not a big consideration for me but we do avoid filling up at Motorway services

My legs don't need fuel
Never passed my test with over 100+ lessons, and tbh I doubt I could afford to run a car now, which is a shame as I feel I miss out on a lot

Well, this probably contributes too! I lost my fuel allowance 2 years ago and paying is tough lol

Hayley I have a Ka too and I usually stick £20 in and it hardly lasts. My catalytic converter fell off a couple of weeks ago and it sounds like boy racer car

I still have to pay for my private miles but I never seem to do that many of them but it's at 15p per mile so I think quite good value all in

Re: Do you think about petrol more now?
Me and hubby share a car which uses diesel that is currently at about £1.50 a litre
I used to have my own car a Peugeot 206 which was very good on fuel, sadly when I was made redundant a few years ago it had to go, it hurt my back to drive it too though which was a pain, literally.
We dont go anywhere in the car, only to tesco once a week and to the park with Rocky.

We've got a Honda Civic (very old) & it's pretty good on fuel. Hardly drive it, though - Milton Keynes & back every saturday during ice hockey season & holiday in august, but other than that just the odd shopping trip.
£20 petrol lasts us about 10 days in hockey season & about a week longer out of hockey season!

We have a Prius so it's very fuel efficient. It's a good thing to because gas is around $6 a gallon here

Re: Do you think about petrol more now?
It costs us £60 to fill our car up , the hubby is a driving Instructor so we really feel the pinch nowadays with the price of lessons staying the same for the last few years, but fuel costs rising .

Re: Do you think about petrol more now?
Unleaded Fuel here in the states has reached ALMOST $4 a gallon. I've never really had much problems with my mileage as I keep my car up. Tune ups, scheduled Oil-changes (which I do my self.) My car is currently in the garage right now awaiting it's new transmission. Those are the big things I can't do my self. My Father in law and I just changed out my breaks, rotors and break lines about a month ago ( I had to walk him through how to do that!) I also just replaced my entire exhaust system (New Catalytic converter included) about a month ago as well. I find that if you keep your tires with the correct amount of pressure in all 4 and keep basic maint. up on the rest of the car you get good mileage. It's the piddly driving around town that sucks it out of you, so if it's not over 3 miles away I walk!

No, I'm just my dad's only child. Growing up in the country he told me that I wasn't allowed to get my drivers license Until I knew how to do a few things. So it was kind of like a hobby of mine. Though, honestly whenever I done wrong instead of grounding me or beating me he made me help him work on the car. Amazing how conveniently there was always something that needed to be fixed. He had a 1968 Dodge Charger RW Drive Muscle car. It was the first car I ever drove, as he also told me that I HAD to know how to drive standard. Tell ya what, my Husbands 2010 Dodge Charger just doesn't compare to my Dad's Beautiful oldie. Sadly it's resting in pieces as the first thunderstorm I ever drove it I wrapped her 'round a tree!

Re: Do you think about petrol more now?
Thats a great ethic you have there, I grew up with my Dad and 3 older brothers who where all into cars and doing them up, so naturally so was I there helping to fix them too. It helps having a good memory and remembering where things go for things like this. When I was about 12 I knew how to change a wheel on Dads car, he was a JCB driver then so I knew how to drive that too. I'm such a tomboy
