sad but nice too!
Last week i posted about giving a homeless guy some food and he sharing it with his staffy: well been off work this week with it being half term and finally cleared out the cupboard under the stairs. in there were three coats that belonged to my first staffy who i lost three year ago. so i decided i would see if the homeless guy wanted one so we popped to town today and he was in his usual place so i went over and gave homeless a box of bonios and a sandwich and asked if he would like a dog co.at...he did and was so grateful he cried. so sad but so nice that his dog is so loved and it looked very smart in the coat!
I got talking to the guy, so awful, his wife died in a car accident, he hit the bottle and lost his home. he has been offered a place in a hostel but can't take the dog so refused as he said its only the dog that keeps him going.
think half the people who give their dogs up at the first hurdle should go see this guy!

Re: sad but nice too!
Well good on you for caring so many people would just look the other way or cross the street. It's seems only to easy to get into this situation and I see it happening more and more. So sad the hostel couldn't let him keep his dog, hopefully something else will turn up for him, maybe social housing could help.

Re: sad but nice too!
I can see his point, the hostel would be good for him but I'd imagine the dog is giving him so much love and company in a horrible situation. Such a shame the hostel won't take the dog in with him, but nice of him to be so loyal to the dog great of you too to spend some time getting to know him.

It's very sad that this happens to some people but you obviously have brought a smile to his face today

I can totally relate to this guys feelings, and it was very kind of you to think of him again.
Its so easy to judge homeless people without knowing the circumstances, I know I have been guilty of it in the past.
Lets hope they get what they deserve - a home together.

Re: sad but nice too!
There are people who are very judgemental but at least there are people like you who have a kind heart,
My OH's mum buys a homeless man a coffee everyday at her lunch break, it is very warming to know that there are some kind and caring people out there!
I too hope they'll find a home, together!

Re: sad but nice too!
Me and my mum both knitted a dog coat this year for the Dog Trust to put in the set of gifts they make up for homeless people's dogs at Christmas. We got a nice thank you letter back. They include all sorts of food treats and toys. So if any one fancies donating some next Christmas I know they are very welcome.

Re: sad but nice too!
>< You're such a kind person. I think sometimes it is easy for a lot of people to forget that homeless people had a life before they were homeless. My kids and I volunteer at a Shelter that feeds them cafe style every so often but always for an entire 2 weeks leading up to Christmas. I want them to learn and understand not to be greedy or to take things for granted for what they have today can surely be gone tomorrow.

Re: sad but nice too!
Very kind of you xxxx
I did an essay on whether dogs should be allowed in homeless hostels a few yrs back , it was very interesting but sad at the same time . No one would blame them for choosing the hostel but its rate that they do. That dog will be with him till one of them dies ..just how it should be. The money the RSPCA have they should do something to help people like this and the last I heard some homeless charities were making positive steps to find a way to provide shelter for those with dogs.
Makes me feel very lucky, it could happen to anyone xx

Re: sad but nice too!
Can I take him home I would love to help a homeless person by bringing them home. I couldn't sleep at night if I knew they were outside.
You have a big heart, hope this man can get a good turn some day x

Oh by the way I forgot, to say that the st mungos centers allow dogs, might be worth finding the nearest one. If he needed money for the trip there if be happy to donate some!
