So, following Caryll, in advance, Hello to all the new folks!

Lovely. Spent some quiet time with Br. Paul, who is the closest to a saint that I'll ever see. He's not 'holier-than-thou' or anything, but he's such a good person & has so much calm about him. His sense of humour is very simple, but very funny. He's in his 70's but still does all the building work on the monastery - he was up on the roof when we arrived, fixing the flag pole!

I could fill a book with anecdotes about some of the monks there, but it would bore the pants off people!

Are there any nuns there, or is it all male?

All men. Age ranges from 25 to 98!

With OH. The kids looked after Dempsey (did a good job, too!). My oh has known them longer than me, about 30 years. I've only known them for about 15 years.

The oldest monk there, Gabriel, is a real character - all the ladies love him & he soaks it all up, a real flirt! But it's all harmless & not meant. He still works in the monastery shop, although he adds everything up on paper as he doesn't know how to use the tills!

Aww sounds like you had a lovely break I went to rome a few years ago for a hol and went to the vatigan it was very mystic and peaceful and im not religous but felt something dont know what though ha ha .
