So we should kill people because it costs less? Nice argument. But obviously mass murderers fall into the category of people who can't be rehabilitated, so they should just be kept away from the public for our safety, because of what I said about no-one having the right to decide such an important issue, what with us all supposedly being equal. Course, we're all equal unless people have the opinion that some are more equal than others.

If we're meant to be all equal, then no-one should decide it's OK to end someone's life under a certain set of circumstances. And it's not even like there's any facts to back it up, it's all a point of opinion, and that's a pretty big opinion.

Plus, I think prison as punishment is a stupid idea. I think it should be more focused on rehabilitation. As opposed to locking people up for someone minor and then when they get out they can't get a job and then end up doing something even more stupid because they can't find a way to make any money. Obviously murder is different, but people's motives for murder are pretty varied. You could give someone anger management, mental health help, etc. The people that can't be helped might as well just be kept away from the public so they're not a danger.

labour threw a silly amount of money at trying to rehab people and it clearly dont work, only time you be able to rehab someone is when they cant do whatever they do anymore, a drug dealer who earns £400/£500 a day is not going want a job that only earn him £185 a week Wink but this not about minor crimes this is about murder

It's worked in other countries. It depends on the person's motives. I just think 'throwing a silly amount of money' at something to try to help people so they become better people is better than killing people. Like it's a cost thing, if it were strictly down to money, you'd agree with killing off people that aren't earning a lot of money. So there's more to it than that.

But more than anything, I don't believe in revenge, either by execution or by making the person suffer as their victims do. All that does is add more suffering to a messed up world, and it's hardly going to make the victim or victim's loved ones move on when their lives are still messed up. It's just people wanting a sense of justice, but I don't consider it justice, so I don't agree with it.

Nah, saw a study on it a while back, think it was Norway. Doesn't support my argument much because you don't expect much crime in Norway Laughing but you get my point. It won't work for everyone, but I think the majority of murders are by idiots who can't control their temper, so in theory it's possible to sort that out. Certainly most of them aren't down to sadistic serial killers.

I still stand by what i said, yes i think it should be bought back but NOT given out lightly and for more minor crimes like of the past.

This has nothing to do with costing less money, i don't think money should come into it.

Yes prison should be made harder like Caryll said they get to many nice things, i think that anyone in prison should blooming well know they are.

However even if prison was stipped to the bare basics that is still not going to be enough to deter those who commit the worst of the worst crimes, those who cannot be rehabilitated and THOSE are the people who should get the death penalty

IMO

I'm against the death penalty but would be in favour of longer and tougher jail sentences for certain crimes.

It should be brought back for queue jumping and hogging the middle lane.

Queue jumping definitely!

Middle lane hoggers, no. We're what keep the motorways moving without constant lane-changing! Smile
