Post by marley'smummy Fri Feb 15 2013, 15:52

I know i posted about 4 months back about Marleys maulting and everyone helped alot, but seriously this is getting silly today on my only day of ive had to de marley hair the house top to bottom we hoover everyday anyway because of the kids and the dog but he is covering everything in hair i use mault oil we have stopped having heating on so much we also try and brush out the hair. But its getting to the point there is so much of it that its covering the kids uniform bags litterally everywhere is covered in hair Sad Does anyone else have this problem is there any good things to try and help even ease the amount of hair coming out, please help Crying or Very sad

Oh no, I have noticed on our clothes that our Marley has been shedding some hair as well. I hope you can get yours under control and I'm sorry I do not have any advice but will be looking to see what others suggest.

Can't help, sorry. Loki isn't too bad, but our old Boxer was. I resigned myself to the fact that nothing would get the hairs off everywhere, because nothing would Laughing I'm sure there's a solution someone can give you though.

What about those rolly things? Can't remember what they are, they're sticky rolling things you roll over clothes and the hairs stick to it? Not perfect, but that was the only thing that helped with Zac's hairs all over the clothes.

Haha, sorry don't mean to laugh. I'm sure he was just kidding, thankfully our Marley is blue so it's not quite noticeable on dark clothes but on lights that's another issue.

Oh yes, my father-in-law gave us some for Christmas and we haven't had a reason to use them but maybe we will have to start if it gets worse. Laughing

Logan is unreal for shedding hair atm. If you saw how much hair I hoover/brush up every day who'd swear Logan would be bald!

It's the time of year for this, the only way imo is to brush him first thing in the morning really well then hoover that area up right away so it doesn't get a chance to get around the house.

I spend as much time with Henry the Hoover as I do with Logan! Laughing

Have you had a word with the vet and discussed this issue, they may well have a solution for you.

oh yeah, i can sympothise... not only do they shed a bit all year round they both blow out there undercoat twice a year thanks to there dad, although laska hasnt yet. last time marley did i had a house and garden full of fur...

A guy i see in our park walk recomended a shedding blade which he used on his labs and it works a treat. A quick bath to loosen everything up and then outside to make the nesting birds very happy. best thing is he absoulutley loves it and falls asleep while im grooming him.

If it's particularly hot or humid where u are they will 'blow their coat'
Does he have bald spots or visible thinning ?

Obviously White hairs will be more visible than any other color. With my 2 blues, I find hoovering just once everyday keeps things clean and under control.

If u feel his moulting is out of the ordinary - pop him to the vet x

Edit: just realised u live in Kent - same as me - so it's not exactly 'hot' being winter. Unless ur central heating is up 24/7. !
Can't really suggest anything other than making sure his skin is ok.

Sorry if this has been said (scanning) have you tried fish or fish oil?

Moo does shed, I wouldn't say malts, not like a cat, but I have black furniture so it shows, also in the back of cars.

Its not bad but noticeable, might be worth a thought Xx

Having 2 white dogs could be a nightmare! but neither of my two mault much, they never have done.

I do give them a good brush once a week, with one of those rubber brush things and have never had any problems

I remember your original post Helen. I wish I knew what to suggest next, apart from the advice you have been given above. I've always had black (or nearly black, like Kuchar) short-haired dogs but can honestly say that even with pale carpets and sleeping on my white bedlinen, only the very occasional hair happens. Maybe I've just been lucky.

We give Ella a cod liver oil capsule every day and she sheds very little fur, may take a week or so to start working Smile
