Pero GSD food

Pero have brought out a new food for GSDs, it looks quite good. Its grain free and is fish based. Caryll could you have a look at the ingredients please. It looks ok for any dog who is grain sensitive

I can't actually find a breakdown of the ingredients! It certainly isn't on their website - or at least I couldn't see it!

Composition


White fish meal (30%), tapioca (26%), pea starch, poultry fat, beet pulp, alfalfa, hydrolysed liver digest, fish oil, yeasts, malt extracts, minerals, linseed, prebiotic MOS, prebiotic FOS, Joint Herb & Spice Blend: Ginger, Ginseng, Frankincense, Liquorice root, green tea, turmeric, fenugreek seed, burdock root, MSM (500mg/kg).


Analytical Constituents


Crude Protein 25%; Fat Content 12%; Inorganic Matter 9.5%; Crude Fibres 3%

Additives (per kg):

Nutritional Additives:

Vitamins: Vitamin A 18,000 IU, Vitamin D3 1,200 IU, Vitamin E 115 IU, L’carnitine 100 mg.

Trace Elements: Zinc sulphate monohydrate 278 mg/kg, Ferrous sulphate monohydrate 167 mg/kg, Manganese sulphate monohydrate 78 mg/kg, Cupric sulphate pentahydrate 20 mg/kg, Manganese sulphate monohydrate 78 mg/kg , Calcium iodate 1.64 mg/kg, Sodium selenite 0.56 mg/kg.

Looks ok, but isn't that different from some of the others they do!

That's a lot of tapioca as well! Is that good for dogs? I don't know!

Hi I also thought tapioca was indeed a cereal but I've been reading up about it and it is in fact a root.

I must admit I didn't know that!

I would tend to stear clear of breed specific dog food, though. It's very gimmicky.

That link was pretty insightful, apparently tapioca is supposed to be good for pallatabillity as well.

Thanks Caryll. I know they are a bit gimmicky but the price and quality of food is good

Food ingredients look pretty good but to be fair the large percentage of tapioca isn't great. It is plant based and a starch therfore it will give them lots of energy and not much nutrition. You'd be better off feeding JWB meat&veg or Orijen or even better a raw diet!

I've just had a look at James Wellbeloved but I was just concerned with the amount of E's in the ingredients that swayed me away but I guess its each to their own
