Introduction to flyball
aka. how many tennis balls can Ledger destroy - well thats what I am expecting anyway
The club where we did Bronze citizen are running an intro to flyball tomorrow night I emailed to pre warn about Ledgers death to all tennis ball tendencies and that when doing the bronze he got a bit stressed (even though his recall and active assessments still went well) but they have said to come along anyway and see how it goes
He has done a bit of agility, is ball mad and when he has a ball in his mouth he is usually at his most obedient but we shall see how he gets on, I'm half expecting him to catch the ball then just lie down and destroy it but he might surprise me
Will update you all tomorrow night

Re: Introduction to flyball
Fantastic
We managed to build up and ended with a couple of full runs I am absolutely made up not one tennis ball was destroyed and he was releasing the tennis ball for his chuck it ball not only that but he came back with the chuck it ball
The only minor negative was that he was getting a little bit stressed waiting for his turn and his calming process was to chew on his lead when it was on his harness (he hasn't done this since his obedience training)
But all in all can't wait to go back he got on well with all the other dogs and when off lead was 100% on his recall, one very proud mom and one very worn out Ledger on the sofa next to me

Re: Introduction to flyball
Nice one well done. Was gonna look into this in the future for Blue. What techniques do they use to get them used to doing it?

Re: Introduction to flyball
Initially we split into groups one half working on recall over one jump then two etc, the other group intro to the chute that the ball velcros on to by putting a jump right infront of it so the dog gets the right position to pick up the ball on the turn
We had fun as Ledger is ball obsessed so nothing was worth dropping the tennis ball for (they recommend non ball toys but his fleecy agility tuggy wasn't high value enough vs a ball) but cracked it now got a chuck it ball on a strap so we can play tuggy with it
Our class is one Friday a month there are a few of us that have been a few times but also some dogs that have absolutely no ball drive and one last week who is just the most nervous dog ever but even she was doing a couple of jumps on the run by the end of the 2 hrs
