Amazing day today so proud!
Today was the best walk that I've ever had with Dragon or should I say run
We went to a big field quite early to train his recall of the lead, well not only he came back every single time no matter how far I was from him but he had an amazing run he wouldn't stop running lol. He came to me running like mad and then he'd run back to my girlfriend and then he'd run around the field and was jumping on his own and biting the grass while running Dragon was really happy today I reckon he likes the big fields where he can run anywhere. Within 30 minutes he was so tired that every time he came back to me he'd lie down on the floor and he was panting like no tomorrow lol.
Then we came home and he drank a lot of water and now he's fast asleep bless him here's a picture of him sleeping

Letting them burn off a bit of excess energy is great. I had loads of free time yesterday and walked for miles along the river with Logan on the training lead. It's great to see them having fun.

Really admire you for your determination and effort to make your boy the best he can be and enjoy his life.
Could I ask you what the Trainer advised you to do to get him to walk past other dogs without reacting as I have a similar problem with my dog and I'm taking him to start new training this weekend. Hope we get on as well as you

Re: Amazing day today so proud!
Well of your dog is a puppy is easier to train than if he's older but this is what we started doing, go to town or a place where you'll see other dogs (on the lead or even walking past a house where the dogs bark but can't get out) then watch your dogs ears, when he stares at a dog his ears will go up and will stay up even if he's not close to the dog yet, when that happens say no firm and pull him back to correct him then walk towards the dog again and if his ears go up again do the same until you go past the dog once he goes past a dog without caring about the dog that much give him a few treats so he knows he's done well, after a few days of seeing a few dogs your dog will start understanding and hopefully will stop pulling towards another dog.
The most important thing when you have a dog that's aggressive towards other dogs is to first learn him to ignore the dogs and then learn him to come whenever you call him no matter what he has to come to you, this is where I'm at the moment and we doing pretty good then we'll start socialising him not sure how that will go or what to do as he'll try to avoid the dogs, I'll have to wait at least another 2 weeks till I get the trainer to come see us again, I want Dragon to come back everytime and ignore other dogs first which he does already but I wanna give him some more time to make sure things will go perfectly when the trainer comes down I just can't wait till I don't have to bother as much about other dogs. Although I don't think I'll let him play with some staffys, just in case the other staffy gets * off for some reason or even my boy and a fight happens, 2 staffys fighting wouldn't end up very good for one of them.

Re: Amazing day today so proud!
I think it can make a lot of difference if you can find somewhere to let them have a good run off lead or on a very long line. Somewhere with no distractions or other dogs, where you can get that one to one training going on is great.
It is of course important to have other dogs around for socialising both for your dog and for you too. It's all in the balance of both worlds.

Re: Amazing day today so proud!
Today there was a big distraction, they were building something so there was a lot of noises while training but he did amazing I couldn't talk at the end though lol! I was shouting is name so loud because of the noises and he was quite far away most of the time lol but it was a funny day and Dragon is still tired and wants cuddlesKathy wrote:I think it can make a lot of difference if you can find somewhere to let them have a good run off lead or on a very long line. Re: Amazing day today so proud!
Thanks for that. Hope my boy responds to the training as well as Dragon has. So far I just haven't been able to stop him from kicking off when he sees certain dogs. Would be lovely to just be able to walk past a dog without a fuss.

Yea if he doesn't like some dogs try walk with them on the lead for a while so he sees that they're friendly. My use to attack any dog, small or big he wouldn't care now he's been improving a lot

Re: Amazing day today so proud!
Sounds like a brilliant walk and he definitelty looks tired! Loki was off the lead running for 40 minutes and he still wasn't even panting . You put a load of effort into training him, I'm glad it's paying off

Normally he runs for like an hour and a half playing fetch and he never really gets as tired as he did yesterday. Yesterday within half an hour he was so tired lol but truth is I never seen him running as fast as that and he was always running lol it was funny hopefully he'll do it again today and ill record him.Tara wrote:Sounds like a brilliant walk and he definitelty looks tired!
