Hyperallergenic Dog food?
Hi Guys,
Bruno is currently having James wellbeloved, but he is getting sick twice a week. I was mixing it with wainwrights wet as he would not eat just dry. At present he is getting sick and has a rash on his skin, so vets have said to try different foods and to stay with dry food no mixing. Try and find out what he is allergic to and see if the change helps his skin, any advice on the different food you guys have tried would be great. Was going to give Arden Grange a go but not sure what its like.
Thanks
Pauline

Re: Hyperallergenic Dog food?
Moo did well on Fish4Dogs, I have changed since for other reasons, but maybe a fished based kibble might help Xx

Re: Hyperallergenic Dog food?
Would you consider feeding raw? I don't as it doesn't suit us but might be worth a thought.
Have the vets done any scrapes on the skin to rule out any other issues? Xx

Simpsons Potato and Salmon is Hypoallergenic and a very good food
Not as good as raw though but I just can't do the whole raw thing myself so settled for the best dried...would also suggest fish4dogs as a great dried option, not sure how hypoallergenic it is though

Re: Hyperallergenic Dog food?
We give Bacchus Fish4dogs Salmon Oil every day. By chance I read on the label that it can help with dry or itchy skin and also suitable for cats, so we started giving it to one of our cats who has a massive allergy problem ( he's on daily medication for it) and now when we get a flare up it is much less severe and clears up more quickly. It costs £16.50 for 500ml but might be worth a try. Worst scenario....it will improve the his coat condition.
P.S.
they also do 100ml for £4. Not quite as good value for money but saves splashing out before trying it.

Re: Hyperallergenic Dog food?
Ive moved my two onto wainrights salmon and potatoe. Since ive had marley ive tried eukenoba, origen, jwb and hills science plan and cant see myself moving from wainrights. Its ingredients are good they have both packed on lean muscle and the number twos are firm and consistant. Im not longer woken in the night for an urgent poo trip into the garden and it seems to fill them up even though i feed 10% less than guidlines. Only diff for me is i give zinc suppliments for the husky side as no commercial food seems to give this and its a common skin complaint symptom with the bread. Im well happy with the coats as well and as a cheaper food its working very well for my two

Re: Hyperallergenic Dog food?
Hi, for his skin at the minute he is on antibiotics and piriton as well as a skin wash. The food was with him being sick at least twice a week. But the vet said we need to work out whats causing the skin issue first before we look in to the intolerance of chicken and other foods. Arden Grange has sent a sample of their sensitve food and also ordered the samples of Fish4dogs, as he has become very fussy and won't eat dry on its own, adding some hot water to it and given him 2 100g portions and a 50g portion since yesterday. Feeding him 3 times a day. Does this sound about right to you guys? He had skin mites when he was younger so asked the to look into that. I'm taking him back next Monday for more tests and see how he is doing.

Re: Hyperallergenic Dog food?
Since I've had Zeus, I've tried a lot of decent food but none have suited him (Applaws, Wainwrights, Royal Canin, Fish 4 Dogs, Wafcol).
I've just moved him onto Orijen now, yes its expensive but (touchwood!) it seems to be doing the trick! His scratching has cut down alot and his poo is alot more firm!

Is it much more expensive than say Fish4dogs?

The initial outlay is expensive but, smaller portions are required. I reckon I'm feeding Bacchus for about £1.40 a day.
I also give him 1 teaspoon of Fish4dogs Salmon Oil daily.

There's not much of a difference, say between £5/£10 a large bag, but as reuben said, you feed less of the Orijen so it lasts longer. I feed Zeus 300grams a day of Orijen, and a 13.5kg bag will last approximately 45 days. The cheapest I've seen Orijen is on MedicAnimal.com. The main thing however is that Orijen is completely grain free, where Fish4Dogs has some grain in it.

Thanks for that goldie87. I've been paying £60.99 for 13.5 kilo from J.W. Titmuss instead of £55 from medicanimal.com. so even better

Wow, that's pretty expensive for JW. If that was me, I'd definatly move onto Orijen, especially as you're going to get a saving with it. Have a look around the net for some promotional codes, there might be some flying around.

Sorry, misunderstanding here. I'm paying £60.99 for Orijen Puppy Complete from J.W.Titmuss. Have had Bacchus on Orijen since I got him.

Re: Hyperallergenic Dog food?
Hope the change in Diet helps out but dont forget that skin complaints can also be caused by washing powders, floor cleaners, perfume, soaps etc. we have changed all our household stuff to non bio and none allergy type products and it seemed to work with Ella.

Is it the grain that can cause allergies then ?
