hello
Hi my name is Terry and live in sunny Weymouth with 3 year old son and my better half
After being nagged by said half I gave in, and we adopted a 4 year old staff called Angel last Wednesday from the local kennels
She's still settling in, but so far so good apart from refusing to eat the various different foods offered! (Down to stress of moving?)
Been stalking the forum for a while so thought I'd say hi and say thanks for the info so far

Re: hello
Welcome to you and Angel to the very best doggy forum!
She's a gorgeous girl, and well done to you and your OH in giving her a forever home. Yes, she's settling in so give her time and she'll be your best friend!
However, there is always someone here to give advice and help, if it's needed.
Looking foreward to hearing more from you.

Re: hello
Thanks for the welcome. She has started eating today after being told to heat her food slightly to make it more appealing. It smells horrid but she loves it
Only negative about her is she is aggresive towards other animals especially dogs which is why her old owner had to rehome. Can this behaviour change or is a muzzle the way forward in public?

Re: hello
Yes she tries to jump at them barking and growling aggressively. We've taken her to the beach every day where a lot of other dogs go but no improvement

Re: hello
Hi & welcome.
Some staffords just don't like other dogs & there's very little you can do about it. Some rescue dogs also take a few months to settle properly & become confident in their surroundings.
However, if she is naturally dog aggressive (da) you can control it. You obviously need to make sure that she's on lead where there are other dogs. But you will also need to do some training for...
1. Recall - you need to be sure that she will come back first time whenever you call her
2. Watch - teach her to look at you whenever you say "watch" so that she's distracted from other dogs
3. Leave - the leave command will also help if an off lead dog approaches her & the owner doesn't call the dog away.
If you need any help with any of the above, just start up a new thread in the training forum!
