Re: How to reduce pulling?
Have you tried a no pull harness yet. You could also walk the pup seperately and when she pulls turn around and go in the opposite direction. This method takes some time to work but does get results

Re: How to reduce pulling?
Hi, thats doesnt sound too good for you both. When tyke was a pup he would pull when he had a collar on, have you tried a harness as that what we went for, i felt he wasnt going to do damage to his self but i also have alot better control over him. I think work with both of them would work aswell, as the little one will be copying the bigger one, on the work side there are many hear who will be able to advice on the best way to go

Re: How to reduce pulling?
The no pull harnesses are designed to use the dogs momentum against them. When they pull it ends up taking them back to you. We recently started using one for Suki becuase she would pull like mad at the beggining of her walk or when she wanted to chase after something and it has worked wonders for us. Here is a link for what we use

I have never used the no pull harness, but alot a people on hear have given good reviews. I just got a fabric and fleece harness, had it 3 years now and its the best thing ever as we can just throw it into the washer when he been out plus i have alot more control and its comfy for tyke

Re: How to reduce pulling?
When it comes to pulling I find the only way is to stop walking and correct the dog, just by saying NO firmly. Then when he has stopped walk on.

Re: How to reduce pulling?
It can take a long time to get a dog that walks nicely on the lead. Like others have said, we would stop when Taz pulled and say heel and then carry on...it took weeks or being consistent though.
We would use the collar for walking only....when he wore the collar he knew he had to walk nicely....and then harness when we were on the flexi lead or were going to let him off...he knew the difference between the two

Re: How to reduce pulling?
What Mat said is what I do and has worked for me and very quickly, my boy use to pull a lot and within a space of minutes he understood not to pull.
Go for a big walk on the lead and try it.
When he starts pulling, pull him back and say ''NO!'', also try to keep him walking by your side and not in front of you.
Harness helps too, I've noticed that with a harness (even if it's the non pull harness) they don't pull as much and also my boy doesn't wee as much on his harness, for some reason , although I find it hard with my harness to pull him back to me, sometimes he wants to go the wrong way (for example wants to cross the street when we don't) and I find it hard to get him to come the way I say.

I find this too, although it's the opposite for others.

Re: How to reduce pulling?
My sister's girlfriend has a staffy and I seen him walk with a harness and collar, with his collar he was basically chocking himself and making funny noises because he was pulling that much, then I seen him with the harness and I even walked him and I can say he didn't pull at all, although if he did I'd go with him that dog was so heavy (not overweight) Dragon compared to him was nothing when I walked Dragon after felt like I had no dog there I'm still impressed to this day on how heavy that staffy was but he wasn't pulling he was walking very good with his harness.

Re: How to reduce pulling?
I was recommended using a Lupi harness for Katy as they say they work almost straight away. Obviously Katy didn't read the reviews .She's pretty good going out but turn for home & it's like being behind a tractor. I find she walks better on her collar at the mo.

Re: How to reduce pulling?
Put Rolo in a harness and he thinks he's a Husky or a Heavy horse... Normal harness or anti pull ones, he has no respect for at all, he throws his weight in it and goes. He can walk beautifully if he's working, but if we're just going out for a walk.. forget it, we use a head collar it's the only thing that gives my shoulder a break! Little monster But he'll get there, I know he can do it, at the moment it's mainly youthful exuberance!! And hoping that as he matures he calms down a bit?? lol

Have you tried a Gen Con head collar, mine stills pulls but I feel like I've got more control over his head. I've tried a harness but he is like a tractor
