Not good but she is ok
PLEASE be aware of this danger as i should of been. I have never left her lead on in the crate, On the way home from some practice Cassie was in her crate good as gold, Next thing she was squealing and crying such a horrible noise i never want to hear ever again, i looked around and she was caught in the roof of her crate by the buckle of her collar (all 4 feet can still touch base). I quickly pulled over to the sound of the horn behind, the panic in her eyes was unreal , she had twisted and pulled and tried to get free and the blanket she has to lie on while we travel had wound tight around her back legs. I quickly took off her collar and released her legs, she was fine just very shaken, i immediately spent 20 mins putting her in and out of the crate giving her a quick walk in between. Please be aware if you dog travels in a crate please take off the collar. I know a 44year old fella shouldn't but i am still shaking and crying now

Gosh, im so glad she is ok. I will be showing this post to my sister, as she has a mini dach pup and she insists on leaving her collar on in the crate. i keep telling her that she can hang herself. hopefully she can learn from this.

Re: Not good but she is ok
She's still shaking a fair bit but she's ok, she uses the same crate as bed and for the car, she wouldn't go in until i put her cover on but she has been in and out a few times, i am putting her back in the car before it goes dark just to make sure she is ok. I can't help thinking what if i had nipped to b&q or shops like i often do on the way home from a walk, i feel so guilty

Re: Not good but she is ok
You must both have been very shook up by the experience. Don't beat yourself up about it, we have all made mistakes but at least you were able to put it right before any harm was done.
You will never do that again, and posting what happened may just well have saved this happening to someone else.

Jeez you have had a shocker Dave. I'm glad you were there and able to sort it. I hate having scares like that. Hope you are both alright fella!

Dave, don't feel guilty! It's something to learn from, and at least she wasn't hurt.
I've never left a collar on a dog unless they're being walked or I'm at least in the same room. I should think in future you'll be taking the collar off in the crate?

What a horrible scare for both of you I've heard Loki make some terrifying crying noises when he got in a panic almost choking on something, and it's such a scary things. So glad she's OK though, and at least you know you won't let it happen again

Re: Not good but she is ok
Just bathe it in warm salty water & let it heal naturally. It doesn't look too bad, and by tomorrow she'll probably not even notice it!
I've got to admit that if it had been me & Dempsey had a crate in the car, I'd probably have left his collar on as well - although now I wouldn't! So, thanks Cassie for warning us all!

Re: Not good but she is ok
Pleased she's ok Dave , thankfully ours travel on the back seat in their harnesses so no worries there, but as others say they get their harnesses and collars taken off as soon as we get in the house and not put on again until we are leaving

So glad she is ok. That must have been so scary. I take Bella's collar off at home but I wouldn't have thought about something like that happening in a car ><

Re: Not good but she is ok
My 2 have their ezydog harnesses on in the car with a seatbelt attachment. I think this is safer than a crate cos if something happened they wudn't be thrown against the bars of the crate. I don't use the attachment that came with harness I use the kind that fits in seatbelt socket.

Re: Not good but she is ok
good advice hope she's ok now
I also heard of someone who left their dog in the crate with just a collar on, which he managed to slip and being a pup ate the collar i believe unfortunately he pup didn't survive
