shoes in Australia
Here in Finland. Romeo needs shoes in the winter when the weather drops below -15. Thats when his feet start to get bothered. this -8 we have been having is fine to him, he loves it
But it got me thinking. in Australia the problem will be the other way around... the ground will be hot.... blisteringly hot.
Romeo owns a cooling vest. i wet it down and it cools his body while we run about in the summer haze. But what about his feeties? they will burn He could get serious injury...
Romeo is the kind of spoilt little prince apple of my eye who if he doesnt get his time outside to burn off steam... he will drive me nuts.
So i looked it up online, how to deal with hot ground surfaces and dogs.... i was recomnded.... summer shoes
i mean... i just think it will look.... stupid honestly, and embaressing for me and romeo... but rd degree burns on his feet are not really that attractive to me. I'm probally over reacting and his feet will be fine... but i have walked barefoot on the australian road before and dear sweet dogs... it was painfully hot... i'd hate for romeo to suffer this.
have any of you living in hot places even thought about this issue. i honestly never did with any of the dogs i had before in australia, but then again i have never been so commited to exscersising a dog before romeo.
i was thinking sandles hahahah
here is another attractive option... i wont tell you on the fourm what they remind me of... but they are rubber disposable botties for your dog..
these are kinda cute

yeah I agree I have never seen a dog wearing them here though..
If you moved to Sydney then I could tell you heaps of places to go for walks where there is no pavement.. We do the early morning walk then in the afternoon either go to the offleash park which has a lot of bushy walks then into the offleash area or on the really hot days we go to the river at Windsor When you settle here just google all the areas before summer that are not paved for walks in your area

Romeo will be doing his quarintine in Sydney when he gets released we might have to go for a walk around, who knows we might see. But we are headed to live in Adelaide my home state so i can be closer to my family up in Port Augusta. Adelaide shouldnt be so hot i shouldnt think.... but when we're in port... i have seen the roads melting many times and time tested cooking eggs on the foot path a few times

Yes who knows The quarantine station in Sydney's west is only 1 block away from the park I go to...

Re: shoes in Australia
i'm not looking forwards to romeo being there..... it will be like prison for him
Re: shoes in Australia
He will be OK, I'm sure of it, he will be sad and confused for a while but when you come to get him it will all be forgotten
How long will he need to be in quarantine for?

Re: shoes in Australia
You know they have exercise yards etc.. and you can organize professional dog walkers to come and exercise him.. When you are a bit closer to the move you can think about all the things to make his stay better for him

Re: shoes in Australia
he needs to be there for 30 days. i can see him 2x a week for 30mins a time and the exercise yards need to be booked. i just hope they have room for him when i want to go there. i think i will try and stay in sydney for most of the time that he has to be there and then try and fly him to adelaide asap.
I would love to drive him home, but i dont have my licence, and i know no one will come that far for us hahah.
I dont know, do they have trains that go from sydney to adelaide? Romeo is very good on trains. train in the main mode of transport to go from place to place here in finland

Re: shoes in Australia
i hope you can take animals with you on them... i dont want to put him on a plane again for many many years after the long * hual he is going to be exsposed to...
i think... me in romeo will be in for a number of shocks in australia. as the rules for animals here in finland are so PRO DOG. cafes and bars and all public transport is open to all dogs.. and its all free for dogs, bar long distant trains (its like 5€) and planes (about 100€) Australia keeps looking.... more and more restricted dogs wise

No not in general seating but I thought they could travel in a seperate carriage in a crate

Re: shoes in Australia
no... it says nothing about that on the site. in finland there is a dog and owner area for people traveling with pets. they have limited seating but still. its very nice.
if the choice to to train romeo in cargo or fly him i might as well fly him since its faster.
what is the cheapest airline in australia?

We are in no way that Pro Dog and I know that dogs can't freely travel on public transport unless they are a seeing eye dog.. Could you perhaps wear dark glasses and use a cane There are certain places cafes, bars etc that dogs are allowed.. By the sounds of it we are somewhere in between, I would love it if we had your dog friendly laws here..
I find urban animal is quite an informative mag for things to do and whats on guide

Re: shoes in Australia
I would probably think a flight from Syd to Adel would be best, it is under a 2 hour flight so it shouldn't distress him too much more and at least at the end of it he will be in his new home..

if you want uggs for your dog you can buy pugs

i was looking up some things on a site called adelaide dog lovers. there seems to be some nice dog friendly places, but not like here where i can walk in where ever i like.
its in my thoughts now just to fly him... but i cant even check him in like normal here in finland i have to take him to the cargo terminal... like a ...box or something
Re: shoes in Australia
Yeah I know it isn't nice is it Wonder why some people treat their dogs like a disposable possession when the govt. treats them that way too.. It is improving though with the companion animals act At least now there are a lot more things that are dog friendly..

Re: shoes in Australia
Those little rubber booties are rubbish, I bought some and put them on Skibadee in the summer to try and stop the pollen irritating her feet but they just split through from their nails and hers are'nt sharp atall!
