raw chicken drum stick
Hi there need a little advice. Last night i gave toby a raw frozen chicken drum stick. Was watching himhim eating it until i.took my eyes off him for under a minuet (which i know was naughty) then looked again to see him licking his lips. Would he of crushed the bone up. Im worried he may of swallowed a big bit. Should i be worried. I remember reading that dogs have really good stomach acids. Would this disolve the bone. Obviously in the wild this shouldnt be a problem. Thanks for reading and any help will be appreciated.

Re: raw chicken drum stick
You really should hold all bones if your dog is a gulper, unless its a big enough bone they cant swallow (rack of ribs for example) is Toby raw fed? His stomach acid's may be able to deal with it, but I'm unsure. A raw fed dog could handle it no bother, my raw fed 19 week old could handle it and she has done on a few occasions. Just keep an eye on him.

As long as hes acting normal and drinking as usual he should be fine! Just keep an eye on him over the next couple of days!

He should be fine, raw chicken bones are bending and shouldn't splinter. He will be ok his stomach acid will break down the bones.

Re: raw chicken drum stick
As the previous guys have mentioned he should be fine. My little fella is 16 weeks and he's been on chicken drumsticks since he was 9 weeks old. A dog can deal with uncooked chicken bones, usually they'll crunch and chew them. A chicken drumstick is now gone in around 30 seconds with Tommy. Sometimes he sounds like he might be choking but he's just bringing it back to chew it some more. Holding it while they chew is easier said than done, believe me. Even a puppy staff has a much better grip round a chicken drumstick with his teeth than you're ever going to get with your fingers! He'll snatch it off you in a split second and then run off to eat it in a private place.

Re: raw chicken drum stick
To be honest if he chomped down a drumstick like that I would be tempted to give him something a bit bigger. We give ours chicken quaters or carcasses sometimes they take a while to eat.
