Pet Insurance Empty Pet Insurance

Post by Staffy lover Wed Jan 23 2013, 09:06

Our insurance is up for renewel. We have been charged a 50% increase, is that normal????? The two claims we made was for the cannine, and of course the x rays for the shoulder. Pixee has since been written off by the vets, as she is still doing well. Hubby rung the Insurance to demand why the 50% increase, we were told, that when we first took it out last year, we had 10% off, the rest is because of Pixees shoulder as its on going???? And they need to cover costs. Vet does not want to see Pixee again since her 3 week check up back in December. And so far she has been great. Surely they cant do that can they? Advice please.

Unfortunately they can. And if you change insurers & you have problems with the shoulder again you won't be covered as it will be a pre existing condition. Sad

As Caryll said no other insurance will cover her joints now, so assuming you have life cover with your existing insurance then they have you over a barrel, if you didn't have life cover then shop around Xx

It's the same with auto insurance or any other type. If you file claims the premiums go up but they should decrease if you don't file any additional ones. If you would change companies anything that happened would be a prexisiting condition and therefore not covered.

We have just renewed Rocky insurance which had increased by 20% and we have never made a claim. He is insured with Argos as a Staffy cross, which he is. After checking online (with Compare the Market and others) it was a competitive price compared to others. We just took it as a bitter pill to swallow Sad

Thanks all, we are staying put. Not worth the risk changing Insurances. Hubby did ring the vets for some advice too before I showed him the above, vet advised the same as you all. She did ask how Pixee was doing, and still reckons its to do with her other home where she has been beaten, possible of a nerve being trapped as bones are fine as with humans certain movements can trap a nerve, so the rest and the fact that we are still being careful with certain rough playing is helping heaps. Just got to take it on the chin and get on with things, Pixee is worth it, but yes Insurances do hold you over a barrel grrrrrr

Very little and wish I had better insurance now, but you learn by your mistake of thinking you'll never need it!

Ours will increase to £19.11 now.

Thank you Claire. We are very lucky to have Pixee, she has been with us 12 months now. She is one spoiled dog and worth it very much. Love Struck
