Upgraded Crate Space
Hey all,
So when we bought Marleys crate in november, we got her one big enough for her to be full grown and it came with a divider to make the inside smaller. i have been extending it as she has been growing the last few weeks. i decided that since accidents were minimal, i would upgrade her condo to the full presidential suite lol and remove the divider. Please to report, no accidents inside and its been since saturday. she looks much more comfortable and content now. i really wasnt feeling the "just big enough so that they could turn around" advice. to me thats puppy mill talk. maybe now that she is more comfortable and able to stretch all the way out, she mite wander in there on her own. i have never seen her walk into her crate for more than a sip of water from her crate bowl and right back out. we leave it open when she is out and about but she is afraid she mite miss out on some impending action lol.

Dempsey's crate is just big enough for him to stretch out in & he's more than happy with that. Certainly not a puppy mill crate!

Re: Upgraded Crate Space
Moo's crate consists of my bed
But if I ever had a pup I would defiantly use one and I'm pleased to hear Marley is enjoying his

Re: Upgraded Crate Space
i wouldnt mind marley on the bed or laying on the sofa with her, but she makes a straight line for the face out of play and all i see is razor blade teeth lol. maybe as she gets older and is less excitable i guess.
Re: Upgraded Crate Space
ah i see that would be better. Its not good when theres 2 in the bed

I probably could have phrased it better, but when she demonstrated the divider panel in the store she used a stuffed animal inside the crate to demonstrate the "just enough space to turn around", the first thing that popped into my mind was the puppy mill commercials from animal planet and it just stuck with me i guess. i played along with it as im the type of person who is regimental about instructions, but i just couldnt shake that thought. i understand the logic to it as far as having the divider in to prevent accidents (what the pet shop lady said). I just wanted marley to be more comfortable.
Re: Upgraded Crate Space
As I said earlier, most dogs get to think of the crate as their den, and as such it's probably cosier & more welcoming if it isn't huge. By all means take the divider out, but it sounded like you were saying that everybody who had a slightly smaller crate was treating their dog like a puppy farm/mill dog.

the store ladies wording and demonstration reminded me of a puppy mill video. that is all. i know you dont operate or treat your dogs like they are on a puppy mill, they are some of the most beautiful BT specimens i have seen.
Re: Upgraded Crate Space
Cassie uses the crate we bought for the car, she can just about stretch out and comes out the crate to stretch properly, i made a cover and she has a single quilt in it and it's her den, it's all she needs she loves it
