on my walk today i went to a new area, huge expanse with miles of pathways, obviously popular with dog walkers. i met at least 15 dogs today, and despite me putting Lola on the lead for all but one (where she escaped my grasp and had a two minute game of cat and mouse with a very friendly dog) not a single other person put their dog on a lead, or made any move to recall their dog! seriously, its just polite.

add to the fact that one dog i walked past (part of a four dog group) Lola didnt bat an eyelid, as i got to the usual distance where i can let her back off and she'll keep walking, she sprinted backwards ignoring my calls and launched at the dogs head.

luckily, there seemed to be no teeth, no growling or barking, no real malice, nothing except a "take notice of me" kind of action and no reaction from the lab or the other dogs (thank whatever deity you believe in), and Lola just came straight back to me as if it was normal. i, on the other hand, was mortified but the other owner was fine. first dog she'd reacted to all bloomin day, first dog she's done something stupid to for a while now

Out of interest why put Lola back on lead when you meet a dog if she pretty much ignores others or have I read that wrongly? Xx

she can ignore most, if they do the same, but if they decide to come over and have a sniff she occasionally gets nervous and can tell them off (lots of teeth and barking), but she's yet to actually attack another dog. its probably an over reaction on my part, but i dont know what another dog will do so i just take the precaution of having Lola close by.

Fair enough, I always have Moo off lead, granted if I see an owner with a dog on lead I will always pop her back on. But if there off lead so is she, sometimes she has a right growl at dogs that pounce on her but it always ends in play Smile

Laughing just reminded me of a pup she was playing with, 8 weeks old if that, shouldn't have been out tbh, with a young mum and pram, on the common, pup obviously had no recall and was hanging off Moo, she was growling and kept rolling this white pup over in the mud, who was then throwing himself in front of Moo, all kinds of noises, more so from the pup.

You should have seen the pups owners face, I think she thought Moo was gonna eat it!..........................welcome to Bully breeds, they play tough! (should have mentioned it was a boxer puppy Love Struck )

Where abouts in cheshire was this walk? There is a walk we go sometimes called quarry bank mill and the owners all seem to hang in groups, Cassie would love to play but i never allow her off just in case which is a shame, because like you with Lola it's worry on my part because Cassie is yet to misbehave

I walk Cassie on the other side of Anderton boat lift, i won't go marbury park way because of all the people that walk there it gets so busy, but on the other side on the way to acton bridge it is just fields for about 3-4 miles and very quiet and Cassie can run till her hearts content

I never just assume that other peoples dogs are safe, thats why i never let Cassie off lead until i can see a fair distance either way. But the amount of times you hear "he/she is ok don't worry" but how do they know my Cassie is not going to rip their dogs apart?, how do they know what type of owner i am? For all they know i could be the type to want to see my dog eat theirs, people like that do exist hence dog fights angry . I avoid popular walks because of that reason but on the flip side i have met 2 or 3 who are like minded
