Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
In another thread Caryll expressed an interest in seeing some pictures of our old Bull Terriers and it looks like they are all at the house of my father stored away at present in boxes, however I did find this recent picture taken in the sun lounge of a bullie that plays regularly with Bailey on walks in the local fields and belongs to a friend of ours. He is big and rather slow but incredibly laid back.

Re: Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
I just found this picture of the last bullie we had called Sam shown here at just 9 months old in the back garden. He was huge and ridiculously strong.

Beautiful! Especially the first one - I have a soft spot for the coloureds!
If you find any more, I'd love to see them!
On average about 22", but you can get anything from 18" to around 25" for a real biggy.

Re: Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
We actually had a beautiful 2 year old bitch once called Peggy that had the same colouring as Dempsey. She was fantastic around the house but unfortunately it only lasted a week because she had a nasty go at our bulldog Henry shown below and we couldn't take the risk that it would happen again.
In retrospect I think we were just unlucky with the timing because the breeder who had taken her in from a divorcing couple let us take her while she was still technically in season and I suspect she just didn't want to be bothered by a male dog at the time, so she lashed out.

What a face they have! A guy my oh works with has a bulldog & I never realised just how strong & heavy they are!

Steve wrote:how tall do they get?
The one you see at the top there is roughly twice as wide as our staffie and weighs in at about 75 pounds after having gone on a diet. I am not sure how tall he is but probably close to 25 inches. Our girls is 38 pounds but she is much faster and more agile plus she can run all day unlike the bullie who just likes leisurely walks.

We met a two year old male bulldog just the other day in the village and it was about the same height as our staffie but considerably wider. He was a tough macho boy with a very bull like attitude. Needless to say our girl was completely unfazed and quite indifferent.

Re: Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
The bulldog was fine. He wasn't aggressive but just wanted to march forward in a very bull like fashion and it may well have unnerved many breeds but as my grandfather liked to say it was like water off a duck's back to Bailey.

Bullies aren't pretty dogs, no one can deny that. But they do have a sort of ugly charm about them & they're absolute clowns.

The French have a phrase, "Joli Let" which translate into something like pretty ugly but in an affection way. I think this fits for the Bull Dog.

Re: Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
I don't think any of the Bull Breeds are 'pretty' in the accepted sense of the word - like cocker spaniels or bichon frise's are pretty - but they have a certain charm and presence.
Plus, they tend to be very cheerful dogs...they make me laugh, anyway!

I have to be one of the few to admit that before my staffy days I just thought EBT were ugly dogs and then I just started to notice them more and in my own way as with the staffys I have always made it my mission to go and say hello (with owners permission) to every Bully , Staffy , Mastiff , DDB that I've ever walked past and shamedly I tend to ignore all the little cute fluffy things , they get enough love in the world anyway. If it's Bully it's beautiful

My lovely Tys...
Here are some pics of my little man (sadly lost him to complications after an operation when he was around 7 mnths old ..)
Here he is a few days after coming home..
He was such a handsome chap with a mental attitude .. not aggressive just mental
Look at the tail going !!!!!
This last pic of him was taken about 3 days before his op... My last pic with my handsome chap
............
They are a very luvin and friendly breed who can be very very stubborn or is it slightly stupid haha !!..

Oh Sue, I'm so sorry to hear about Tys - he was beautiful.
And Janey, I have to agree - it is not a pretty sight for sure (think it might be an English Bulldog?) The dentition is terrible. Let's hope he has a beautiful nature!

Re: Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
I like the mini-bullies, I could definately be convinced to have one. We are debating trying out another breed when our golden oldie goes to rainbow bridge. The OH doesn't really like bullies though! I love seeing photos of people's past-dogs x

Re: Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
Thanks Janey .. It broke my heart when we lost him as he came round from the operation fine but then suffered 2 seizures one after another in the vets and never regained consciousness ..
I was beside myself with grief but i had to bring his body home so we could all say one last goodbye to him .. I owed him that x
Thanks Kay he was my little stunner .. But i know he's at Rainbow Bridge now with my big beautiful Rottie Kruga and i bet there causing havoc but also running free .. Miss them so much xx

I've honestly never found those typical-cute dogs to be all that pretty. They're cute and and whatnot, but I guess I just prefer not-so-typically-cute breeds. EBTs are definitely unique-looking. Their alleged stubbornness/stupidity probably wouldn't make them an ideal breed for me though, unfortunately training is insanely difficult as it is. I'll just admire from afar

Re: Caryll wanted to see Bull Terriers
Oooh I do love an EBT Sadly, had an awful experience with a bad example of the breed not so long ago, but it definitely hasn't deterred me, think they're lovely dogs!
