Cut on pad
Hi all,
Took the dogs out for the daily walk earlier and Bella went into the woods and when she came back to me I noticed a trail of blood. She has just started her first heat I thought it was that to start with but as I walk walking back to the car with her there was still lots of blood dripping (Good job snow was on the ground else I wouldn't have noticed) so I checked her paws and one of the pads has a cut down it.
We got back I cleaned her up (cotton wool in boiling salt water) and she seems fine now.
How long does it usually take to heal, and do I need to do any more?
Thanks everyone.

Re: Cut on pad
Hi, my dog recently cut his hind leg, i know it not the pad but if its a clean cut nothing hanging of etc i would keep it clean and covered for a few days and put a sock over it. Dont know how she is with things like that but we kept tyke with us as much as poss and in the end he did not bother with the sock and bandage after three days we left everything off and its a nice long scab. sounds silly and people may not agree but we put sellotape around it so one he couldn't grip it with his teeth to pull the bandage off and two it kept it dry for when he popped into the garden for a wee
Its horrible when they cut there self, my kitchen looked like a murder had gone off as it was dripping into his pads and he was walking it ll over lol
hope I helped and she gets better soon

Re: Cut on pad
Human antiseptics can be too abrasive for dogs - that's probably why Google told you not to use it.
I'd wait and see how it is tomorrow - in the meantime, bathe it with salt water and keep an eye on it.
