Nope, he's definitely not talking to you. In his opinion, a dog is a carnivore and should remain as such! He doesn't care what his humans eat (obviously, he needs to test it first to make sure it isn't poisoned), but he needs meat!

Oh for heavens sake. I have heard in the past (not recently) of people who inflict their dietary prejudices on their carnivore pets, and had hoped it was a thing of the past. Poor dogs and cats.

Laughing They're easily offended.

I put that I'm not endorsing it cause I knew there would be some 'discussion' about it. Big Grin

I think if a dog has severe allergies then it might be a help, but I certainly wouldn't consider it for Dempsey - he'd leave home!

A dog is a carnivore - let it be! Wink

At the risk of being controversial, if a human decides to be a vegetarian, then that is their own choice, but they should not force their opinions onto their pet animals who are carnivores by nature and design. If they can't cope with the thought of their dog or cat eating "flesh", then they should not have a dog or cat.

As an omnivore (the human's natural state and design) I don't force my guinea pigs or rabbits to eat meat.

A meat free diet is not good for a dog or cat. I know with cats they need an amino acid called Taurine which they can only get from meat. As Lynda said she doesn't feed her rabbit meat. I remember when I had my chickens they got in the kitchen and ate chicken curry which I felt really bad about. They would eat cat food ,anything they could lay their beaks on! Laughing

Agree with this. If as a human you think it's wrong/unnecessary to eat meat, I understand that...but you're not going to force lions to eat vegetables because you think humans shouldn't eat meat, that's just insane. From a health point of view, I don't see vegetarian diets working out for dogs, but I wouldn't know.

I think it boarders on cruel and the animals should not be allowed to live with them. If they are so against eating meat, then they would be against keeping animals all together.

I think it was posted originally from the angle of dogs with severe allergies having an alternative diet rather than from the angle of changing your dogs diet from a meat to a veggie one for personal beliefs

I've been a vegetarian most of my life as my Mum is. But I would never even consider forcing an animal to. I have had people say to me before how can I justify calling myself a vegetarian when I have a freezer full of meat for the dog.

It makes me think of the vegan Lion on Futurama lol!

Don't shoot the messenger! Tongues

I only posted it because the question has been asked in the past if there's a vege dog food. Well, there is, and although I don't think it should be used lightly, there are some dogs that have severe allergies & just can't stomach too much meat & can't eat commercial dog food. In those cases it would be ideal.

I'm a vegetaruan, but, as I said before, my dog isn't - he eats meat & does ok on it! Big Grin

What should be sign posted, the food itself or this thread?

I said right at the start that I wasn't endorsing it, but some people might be interested in looking at it, especially if they have a dog with meat protein allergies.

Looks pretty clear that the OP wasn't endorsing it. Tongues The boldened italics sort of give it away.

Wasn't shooting the messenger Caryll, I knew where you were coming from. Just saying my bit because I have seen in the past (not on this website) some dedicated vegetarians who wanted to force their beliefs onto their dogs.
