Just found out I can probably never have...

A German Shepherd, or most likely any dog with long fur or a double coat.

Was grooming a GSD yesterday and got quite badly allergic. My throat closed up and I couldn't breath in properly.

what do you mean by a double coat ??

Soft, thick, downy hair close to the skin. Harsh guard hairs on the outside. A lot of dog breeds have it.

I once had a very similar reaction to a degu so at least I know I could never have one as a pet.I seriously thought I was going to die, it was awful.

Stick with terriers

I've never used granular fertiliser. Doesn't sound pleasant though, either way!

Wow, that must've been scary. I think I have a minor dog allergy, and I literally do not care but that doesn't sound minor. Stick to the short-haired ones?

I used to have a chow (with my dad for the past 7 years) and I'm allergic to finding fur everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Sometimes in nooks and crannies inside furniture which has moved house 3 times!

It's not a major allergy - definitely not life or death. I think it might be because I used to have asthma. Might need to be careful around dogs when I have a cold, though, as I often get bad coughs with them.

Yikes! I imagine they shed quite a lot.

In shedding seasons (2 times a year), each week I was filling 3, 4 plastic bags w/ fur after brushing...

It does annoy me when people can't be bothered to groom their dogs though, particularly when they're shedding. The GSD I was grooming on Tuesday had mats all along the undercoat. Even at the end of the grooming session, while I was blow drying and brushing, huge clumps on fur were flying everywhere!
