Mince pie :(
Poor Betsy- we've just had a visit to the emergency vets as Betsy took a sneaky chomp out of a mince pie. They gave her an injection to make her sick and sure enough there were a few raisins in there. My poor lil girl didn't know where she was- whether to wee or be sick. Apparently the injection has quite a sedative effect.
They are keeping her in overnight with fluids. The vet said she thinks it will be ok and that this is a precautionary measure.
I'm trying not to beat myself up too much over a lapse moment, but it's hard. One thing I have learnt and suggest to you all if you haven't already is have a list of the dangerous foods on your fridge or easily visable. There's a list already on here. From now on I'll be more vigilant and make sure those foods are well out of paw reach.
I'll call the vets in the morning and hopefully she'll be able to come home. I was strong at the vets for her, but leaving with just a lead and not my best buddie tugs at my heart strings

Re: Mince pie :(
It sounds like she'll suffer no lasting effects thank goodness.
All grape related products are toxic to dogs & can cause kidney failure. With some it's quite a large amount that's toxic but for others it's only one or two!
At least you reacted quickly so that you were sure she'd be ok - well done!

Thanks all for your support
Yes exactly as Caryll says, a couple can be lethal to one dog, whereas with another they'd have to have a lot more. Of course you don't know so have to air on the side of caution as they have with Betsy.
I did meet an owner a few days ago whose dog took a chomp out of a xmas cake. They managed to make the dog sick (not sure how) and thought all was ok. In this case fortunately it was, but from what I've learnt I would always go with a check up. As the vet said to me incase they have absorbed some of the raisins.
A wait now until I can call the vets but no news has been good news

I'm sure she'll be fine - as you say, better to err on the side of caution, though.

Re: Mince pie :(
No problem Lynn. I'm happy if others learn from our experience
I entered dangerous foods in the search box on the top right of the screen and there's a couple of lists there.
There may well be an easier way to find it....I seem to like the long way round.

Just called the hospital. Betsy's up with energy and vocal! Can't imagine what havoc she's causing. Calling back later to speak to nurse but all sounds good so far

Re: Mince pie :(
As far as I know, the symptoms of kidney failure caused by ingestion of grapes/grape related food comes on rapidly, so it sounds like she'll be fine!

Re: Mince pie :(
The pet ambulance man said also Liquorice and the vet agreed.
Couldn't see it on the list if that's right

Re: Mince pie :(
Sorry..just seen this- didn't get the message alert for some reason.
Betsy is doing great thanks. She came home Weds nite after a 2 days in hospital and all tests came back clear so fortunately no kidney damage.
She is still jumping around like Bambi on our walks- she's pleased to be home and I'm very pleased to have her back.
Thanks for your support and well wishes ><
