Thats who I am with and they where really good, even though I stupidly have the minimum cover they paid it out no probs.
What you need is a lifetime policy, so for example when I used it for Moo, the max they paid out per condition was £500, now they have paid that they, or any other policy will never insure me for her joints again (all further treatment is up to me £££). Where as life time will pay out x amount for the condition in a year, but will pay that again next year Xx

Re: Pet insurance
I just went onto animal friends to get a quote for marley, and for the one with lifetime cover of i think £20,000 its £32.89 a month does this sound about right my hubby thinks it sounds very expensive i dont really mind paying it as its worth it if something bad happens but is this about what everyone else would expect to pay for a five and a half month old pup x

£32.89 seems a lot to me, have you tried comparison websites, if you know what your looking for ie lifetime cover it can really help

Re: Pet insurance
After perusing comparison web sites for hours, I eventually went for Direct Line whole Life insurance. It costs me £18.45 per month.
It has a pretty good top limit (can't remember the details right now) and they paid out over £500 within 6 weeks of my pup visiting the emergency clinic in the middle of the night, without quibble. They're worth a look.

My hubby and I will be doing this tomorrow for Rocky, we usually look at Compare the Meerkat and get the free toy.
We were with Argos who wanted to up the price from £15 per month to £19. Will be looking elsewhere.

Re: Pet insurance
Oh dear Jordan, that is a problem. I'm guessing you've tried searching on the net and in the USA as well?
If you can't get pet insurance in Bermuda at all, than I can only suggest that you put aside a monthly sum into a seperate account, for use IF needed. At worst it will help if you need a vet, at best "at the end of the day" (which we don't like to think about) you will have a lump sum.
sorry I can't think of anything more.

Not sure Hannahjane - Petplan is certainly pushed via the vets but it's very expensive.

Really depends on the vets on how they deal with a claim

Re: Pet insurance
Hubby and me have been looking at insurance this afternoon for Rocky, we are currently with Argos and after doing a bit of searching around have decided to stay with them for at least another year.
His policy is the Platinum cover with Argos, insured as Staffy cross as he is, £19 per month which is an increase on the price we payed last year of £15 per month. He has the lifetime cover.

Re: Pet insurance
Hi guys, I am new to this site and Chulo is now 9 weeks old and going to need insurance. Looked online comparethemarket.com and think that petprotect seem to have the best deal offering lifetime cover up to £ 4000,-/year for a premium of 25,- per month. There is no excess fee to the vet and they settle the bill directly with the vet. Does anybody have experience with that company (petprotect)?

Re: Pet insurance
Hello Axel and welcome to you and Chulo (who looks gorgeous )
I have no experience of Petprotect I'm afraid, but for lifetime cover with a reasonable ceiling, no excess and settling directly with the vet, £25 pm sounds pretty good to me.

Re: Pet insurance
Well Axel I hope it works out well for you.
I have a lesser monthly premium with Direct Insurance - full life and with a good top cover (can't remember what it is offhand) but I did have to settle a nearly £600 vet bill straight away with the vet, and then had an £80 standard excess charged, plus some other extra excesses for out-of-hours. And it took 6 weeks to get back some of my outlay (less the excesses). I'm not complaining because I knew what I was taking on.
So, a higher premium to cover no excess and settling with the vet directly sounds pretty good to me. I'll be looking at Petprotect ....

Re: Pet insurance
we had Tesco insurance but when we read all the clauses in the contract it looked terrible. Changed to equine and life policy, more benefits and a lot more cover

A lot of it will depend on the Vet , I was with Direct Line for Tilly and we had a claim for Tilly when she was a pup and it was all dealt direct no problems, the only problem I had was with the first bill from an emergency vet (Sunday) and I had to pay out straight away but as I recall Direct Line settled inside of 2-3 weeks and it was on my CC so no problem. Having said that I ditched them when Tommy came along because their premium went up to 26 quid on the renewal previous year for Tilly and they weren't offering a new introduction bonus for Tommy or a discount for 2 of them , wouldn't budge on the phone so I ditched them and went to PAH , great policy for the year but since then the policy cover has changed for newbies so we will be moving on again
