Bruce may have Meningitis! anyone elses Staffy had this?

Hi all

Woke up yestarday morning to find Bruce was not his usual self, seemed a bit run down and was having trouble moving his neck! took his staight to the vets who gave him some antibiotics and painkillers, Took him back today and the vet there said his temp was high (40.05) that he thinks Bruce may have Meningitis. he gave him another shot of pain killers and told me to bring him back in tomorrow. it Could just be a neck strain, but still would not explain the high temp
Has anyone else been through this..... its making me really sad seeing my little man like this.

Firstly, please don't panic too much. Meningitis is, obviously, an inflammation of the meninges - the membranes around the brain (please correct me, anybody, if that's wrong!).

With the correct medication (and the fact that you responded very quickly to him not being well) he will almost certainly make a full recovery.

I would imagine that the vet has put him on full strength antibiotics? Give him a couple of days and you should start to see an improvement - we'll all be rooting for him!

With meningitis speed is of the essence and you did exactly the right thing in getting him to the vet as soon as you noticed something was not right, well done there.

Does he seem to be wary of bright lights as this can be another indication of meningitis.

Hope the vet can get a speedy diagnosis and correct medication can be administered. Sending big hugs your way ><

Mark, please make sure that Bruce drinks water, if nothing else. If he doesn't drink water for more than 12 hours then please take him back to the vet immediately.

Well i took Bruce back to the vets today and he seems to nbe a little bit brighter today and eating and drinking, The vet has given me 3 lots of medication, one lot of Anti-inflammatory, one lot of pain killers and 1 lot of Very strong Antibiotics.......he has to go back on tuesback to see how hes getting on. But till then plenty of rest and TLC.......

Well done for knowing your dog so well and getting him to the vets asap. I'm sure he will be ok but will need lots of love and hugs from you. We've got everything crossed here and sending healing vibes!

My staffie has just had this. Very scary nearly lost her. She's now on steroids but has started walking again which is a relief as for 4 days she was completely paralysed in hind legs.

Wow I can't begin to understand how worried you must have been. Pleased to hear she's on the mend
