Breed or not?
Thinking of breeding sash in the future.
Not a lot maybe once or twice.
i love her dearly shes part of the family and dont want to ruin that.
So what are pros and cons of breeding?
EDIT
Thankyou for all replies. Breeding is definately off, good point about the staffies in rescue!

Re: Breed or not?
Many things to consider here,
Is she a healthy example of the breed and is the stud dog too?
Could you raise the puppys if anything should go wrong ?
Do you have all loving homes ready for all the puppys ?
Do you have the finances in place to care for the puppys, medical treatments, microchips etc. ?
I've no doubt there are many more questions to ask and they will be along very soon.

Re: Breed or not?
Breeding is a tricky one for me; personally, unless the dam and sire are absolutely spot on, pure bred, healthy examples of the breed and are being bred from simply to carry on lines I would even think of breeding for one second. There's just no need for any more staffs in the UK, I work in a stray dog shelter and we've got over 70 staffys needing homes at the moment and it's worse in other places, people just walk straight past them. They're simply unwanted, and sadly thousands upon thousands are put to death every week due to lack of homes for them, and people continue to overbreed, especially non KC bad examples of the breed both in temperament and health.
Other than that, the questions that Kathy has posted are pretty spot on to be asking yourself.

Re: Breed or not?
I would say leave it to the seasoned experts .... there are enough unwanted staffies in rescue homes - why add to the problem?
You're not a breeder, you have no experience - you are asking for trouble and adding to an already out of control problem!

I agree
I also have worked in rescue kennels for many years and all they have is wall to wall staffies/types, the local rescue here has endless puppies let alone adult dogs
and personal experience my Mazda had a litter (after a friend had dog sat and his friends male "go to her") she has never been tolerent of puppies since so in my opinion it ruined her

Re: Breed or not?
I think the only good reason to breed is to continue to ensure the breed is as it should be, so to speak. So in that case, the responsible thing to do if you wanted to breed her would be to do all the health checks needed to make sure she's healthy and unlikely to pass on anything to the puppies (the male too of course), make sure you've got homes lined up for the puppies, make sure you have the money, time and effort to look after your dog and all the puppies before they go to their new homes. Personally, I think it's a lot of work for anyone who isn't a proper breeder.

No!
I'm pretty sure this is the pup with Demodex? The level of Demodectic Mange that she has is hereditary. If you breed from her you will be subjecting all of her pups to the same misery she is experiencing with mange!
An absolute no-no!

I cant see any pros when there are so many poor dogs in rescue.

It isn't even that (although I agree with you up to a point), this poor pup has very bad Demodectic Mange which has been inherited from its mother, and will pass on the same level of mange to its puppies.
Please get your pup neutered once she has had her first season, and don't even consider breeding from her.

If you was to talk to your vet he would also agree breeding her is definately a no no. If the breeder of your pup had been reputable then he wouldn't have breed from the mother in the first place!!!!!
Don't let anymore puppies go through what your baby is going through.

Re: Breed or not?
I have to agree with Taz and say leave it to the professionals. There is a great fad of people breeding their dogs because they like them and think they can get some pups out of them to sell on, when there is absolutely no need to. Especially if the pup has a hereditary condition.
Sorry if it sounds harsh, its just the truth.

Re: Breed or not?
Yeah, as harsh as it sounds, the dog's safety should be considered. I agree with all of the above.

Re: Breed or not?
I would not breed your staffy. Just because you love her and she is beautiful doesn't mean you have to breed from her. Please leave it to the experts. So many staffies are put down every week, its very sad :*(

Absolutely. No criticism was meant towards you, just a heartfelt need to stop what could be a disastrous pregnancy!

Yet another glowing example of how this forum can give great advice to us less experienced staffie owners.

That's very true. Bacchus is my 4th dog, but first staffie, and a whole different kettle of fish. A steep learning curve. Sooo glad I found this site.

Re: Breed or not?
Just a little add on.
Spoke to the vet, although decision is still no, and the puppies may or may not get mange at the same level sash has, theres no definate that the puppy will have mange if she were bred.
The mites live in all dogs skin and flares up when the immune system is low and cannot beat the mites.

I couldn't give the pups away. I'd end up an animal hoarder. Logan has just been told to keep it in his pants!

Then your vet knows nothing about breeding!
Yes, all dogs carry the mites & yes, some pups will get a small problem with them. But, mange on a scale such as this is hereditary & not only should the dam never be bred from again any bitch pups she had should never be bred from!
