New Year's Day Walk
Happy New Year everybody!
We started off on a great walk this morning - 7km at 7am - what a way to start the year! We have started walking with a group of people that have wonderful dogs, all sorts of breeds, and there are around 20 dogs at a time. Roxy has found a couple of friends with her energy levels and his having a blast.
Today a couple joined the group with 2 jack russels (always the small breeds )who haven't been socialised and were purchased from a pet shop at 6 weeks old (they look about a year or so old now). They were bags of nerves, the owners that is. Roxy went up to politely say hello to the JRs and their hackles were instantly up and they were growling at Rox. The woman was so anxious she pulled Roxy by the collar and shouted at me to control my dog..you know, the staffie who was simply standing looking at her and her JRs like they were loons.
The lady who organises the walks asked them to keep their JRs on leash and to stay at the back of the group for now due to lack of socialisation - they kept taking their 2 off leash and staying at the front, where the bigger more energetic dogs were playing.
A little while on Roxy was a few meters from the couple sniffing the flowers and the woman started screaming that she was going to be attacked...of course, the more she shrieked the more fun Roxy thought it was and did go and jump up for a lick. The woman then swung her JR in the air and carried on screeching that Roxy was going to attack her and she knows a vicious dog when she sees one and she has been attacked before
What was Roxy doing? "Play bowing and wagging her tail. My goodness. The organiser then went to have a word with them and the husband said he had a tazer and would not hesitate to use it on Roxy or any of the other dogs. He was promptly shown the way back to his car.
Honestly, people like that..............................................
Roxy meanwhile had an awesome walk and is fast asleep

little bit undereducated , just what the hell were they doing on this walk to start with and a little over keen with a tazer , I would have been tempted to remove it from them and use it anyway just for the threat

Couldn't agree more, Dave. We were furious! People like that shouldn't be allowed out - and I don't blame the JR's for behaviour issues - they feed off the anxious and as you say, undereducated, owners.

Re: New Year's Day Walk
If their dogs are so unsocialised, why take them to a dog walk? Even if they were trying to work on getting their dogs used to other dogs, surely so many dogs at once would be too much too soon. Just...crazy. Wow.

I'm shocked at that, I didn't know Tasers were legal! Some people are delusional about their dogs they will blame other dogs for their dogs bad training and behaviour

That incredible, dog owners like that drive me mental.
Although my pet hate is when someone sees me approaching with Tara and Marco and they cross the street, really winds me up.

There is always one. His tazer would have been shoved where the monkey shoves his nuts

Re: New Year's Day Walk
I've just noticed Roxysmum you are in SA, I take it tasers are legal over there? Even if they are - to threaten you and your dog is unbelievable

Re: New Year's Day Walk
Legal or not isn't really the issue. Presumably it's a defence thing, so why bring one to a dog walk? Surely no-one is going to run up to you in front of a gang of people and dogs and try to hurt/rob you? Then to actually threaten to use it for such a ridiculous reason is just...eh. Maniacs
