What an Idiot...
I was browsing a Great Dane forum (don't ask, I like looking at pictures, so sue me ). I came across this post of a woman whose two Great Danes were off the lead and who ran over to a man with two Akitas that were on-lead. The Akitas started growling at the Great Danes, and the man was kicking the Great Danes away from his dogs. The woman was ranting about how her dogs are friendly and the man overreacted and she was annoyed by how many bad owners she runs into and etc. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but when your dogs run up to dogs they don't know, and you allow it to happen, it's not the other owner's fault, is it? . Then to make matters worse, she starts talking about how she shouldn't have to put her dogs on a lead just because people was to own 'nasty' animals and dangerous breeds. This is her comment:
"I understand the fence sitters saying "Keep them in leads" but why should my dogs suffer because other owners get Dangerous breeds.
Perhaps putting muzzles on these animals when in a public place would be one answer. I walk this Park every day with up to 15 other dogs with no problems. the only agro i have seen is from Akit's, SBT and Collies.
Its not a perfect world but i get fed up with having put my 2 on leads because these simpletons think it cool to have nasty animals.
Sorry but at my age I have had enough of the minority spoiling things for the majority."
What an idiot. It's like saying we shouldn't have cars because having cars ruins it for her dogs being off the lead. Sorry for the rant but it annoyed me that she lets her dogs run up to strange dogs and then decides to complain about the other owner (who had his dogs on the lead). Funny how she thinks Akitas are a dangerous, nasty breed, but she was happy to let her dogs run up to them.
*Sigh*...rant over. Happy New Year, ladies and gentlemen

I see her point, but she should still not allow her dogs to run riot.

i think that if a dog off lead approaches a dog on lead its the dog thats off the lead thats causing the problem and the owners fault if anything happens

I agree with you
The off lead dog is the one that isnt under control freindly or not doesnt make any difference if your dog has no or limited recal then maybe it should be kept on a lead. I understand everyone needs to excercise there dogs but that means we have to appreciate others and not think we can do as we please

Totally agree - one of my big bugbears. I hate it when other people just let their dog run up to me & Dempsey without so much as a by-your-leave! It's rude, and could be downright dangerous!

no i don't see her point.
She is totally in the wrong, she should never let her 'friendly' dogs run over to any on lead dog.

I'll go one step further - no dog should be allowed to run over, uncontrolled, to another dog whether that dog is on or off lead.

It's basic etiquette. If someone elses dog is on the lead, you don't let your dog bomb off to go and play with it. You either ask if it's okay to say hello, or keep your dog to heel.

It's mostly the fact that she thinks it's OK to let her dogs run up to dogs (of a breed she thinks is dangerous) and then when something goes wrong, it's the other owner's fault. What are they meant to do, run away?
