Growth Rate
Hey guys, gave marley her 2nd weigh-in this morning. Last saterday she was 7lbs and we had just had her for 24hrs. one week later she is 9lbs . just wondering if there is a growth chart available somewhere? just a general one. i feed her strictly according to what the food bag says and its saying a 1/2 cup 2 times a day.
Re: Growth Rate
There isn't really a chart to go by, they all grow so differently at that age, as long as the vet is happy keep doing what your doing, just use what the food recommends as just that a recommendation

Re: Growth Rate
They all grow at different rates and recommended amounts on the food packaging are just that, a recommended amount, your vet I'm sure would let you know if she was gaining too much weight.

Re: Growth Rate
Whichever volume you intend feeding her, at her age I would spread it over at least 3 perhaps even 4 feeds per day. But good that she is thriving, she is lovely.

Re: Growth Rate
We had to have Charlie on 4 feeds a day at first because of being so underweight but vet said 3 times is ok now

Yeah, the breeder advised us to switch to 3 times on Thursday passed. she is content i would say. no whining for food.
Re: Growth Rate
What a coincidence ...
I took Luna for her second jab today (and sahe had a weigh in), and I was just looking to see whether she's 'ok' as she still has so much loose skin I thought she might be under weight.
But she's also 9lbs (4.2kgs) so it's nice to know i'm in good company.

Yeah by all means .. it would be lovely to have a good comparison companion
I give her 2/3 handfuls of puppy Science Plan 3 times per day (don't exactly measure )

Re: Growth Rate
Oswald is 8.5 weeks and 3.9kg which I think is about 8lb 9oz. Do boys run heavier then girls? I don't think I am over feeding him, I actually scaled back the amount per feed because he was not finishing it all.

Re: Growth Rate
Males usually weigh more and grow bigger.. But remember they are all really different.. I met a lady at the dog park yesterday with a pure bred staffie bitch who is smaller than steff and 2.5kg lighter and she is 7months Steff is only 5months.. They all grow at vastly different rates so don't worry

Re: Growth Rate
I stumbled up on shome chart off a website when I got Hugo, I had to fill in his age, breed and current weight the results said he would be around 14kgs when adult, I had him weighed at 6 months old and found out he was 17.3kgs.
Needless to say that chart was useless.

Re: Growth Rate
Yes Bacchus is over 14kilos at 5 months. I would say he's slightly overweight but the breeder and vet both agree that he's well within the parameters.
Asyou can see from my avatar he's also starting to put on muscle and broadening out.

don’t worry about the loose skin as they grow into that, when they say puppies grow disproportionately it applies to everything even the skin lol.
All the growth charts I found on the web have proved wrong so far, but to be fair most state it’s a rough guide but not quite as rough as I expected.

With pups I tend to feed four meals a day until 3 months old, then three meals a day until 6 months, and then 2 meals a day for life.
At that age they have so much growing to do, they can't get everything they need in just two meals a day.

I was advised by the breeder to keep them chunky up until at least 4 months , they are pups and will soon get it off when they start the loon stuff

Same advice I got Dave but age wasn't stipulated.

She is 2 months and 13 days. She is on hills science puppy development. The breeder told me to switch her to 3 times a day 2 days ago.

So, she's on 3 meals not two?

Definitely a typo, she is on 3 meals a day @ 1/2 cup each time. Typing on an iPad lol.
Re: Growth Rate
I must admit that I've never gone by growth charts or weights!
I tend to go by the 'look' of a pup - I like to see them slightly chunky (not too thin) but definitely not fat! If she's putting on weight & growing normally, and she's happy & lively then you're giving her the right amount!
