Ideas to help seperation Anxiety
Hi All,
I have a wonderful 9 nearly 10 week old Staffy pup called Honey. She has had two vaccinations and has spent most of her time in doors with me. Only going out into our backyard to toilet and occasionally play a short game. We have been slowly leaving her for 5, 10, 15, 20, building to 30 minute intervals. When we leave she has shade, toys, her bed, water and either a pig ear or chicken broth ice block to keep her busy.
In four weeks I will be returning to work so she will be left at home for 8hrs. Any useful tips to help her, keep her busy and reduce separation anxiety! I am really in love with her and want to do the best by her but also need to return to work... Thanks everyone and I am looking forward to hearing from you all.

Re: Ideas to help seperation Anxiety
Is there anybody you know (relative, friend, trusted neighbour) who could pop in for a few minutes lunchtime?
8 hours is a long time for such a young pup to be left - she won't yet have full control over her bladder/bowels, and she'll get bored very easily!

I agree with Caryll. If you don't have a friend or relative that can help a dog walker with good references is another option.

Thank you
Thank you!!!!!!, after some thought I have decided to enroll her in a day care program. We also think the socialization for her could be good as well. The place we have booked her into is clean, has a great program and the staff appear to be "good with dogs". So far so good, fingers crossed they are as good as they appear. It also is where the puppy preschool is that we were wanting to go to. Thank you again for your thoughts and support. Much appreciated.

Re: Ideas to help seperation Anxiety
Great news at least she wont be alone. 8 Hours is far too long for a pup

Re: Ideas to help seperation Anxiety
That's great news. She can be cared for, have company and be socialized

Brilliant and well planned , just like the kids going off to a childminder and you have great peace of mind that she isn't pining , wrecking the house and is well, best solution all round

That's great. You could ask for some references from other day care goers if you want to make sure that it's a good place.
Will they let you sit & watch for a couple of sessions so you can see what goes on?
