Stupid Staffy owner
We took Duke on the local canal towpath for his walk today , on the walk we met a guy with a mongrel he saw Duke and quickly put his dog on the lead , we thought his dog musn't be dog friendly then we were shocked by what he said next, its a staffy isnt it they don't like other dogs do they , i assured him him Duke has been socialized and was very dog friendly and that not all Staffy's are unfriendly .
He was a decent guy and when he saw Duke licking his dog he relaxed, he told us there is a guy about 70 years old with a Black and White Staff he walks the tow path with the Staff on the lead , the other day the Staff attacked this guys dog , the old guy was trying to hold back the Staff but the Staff was to strong for him and got to this guys dog , i said it is clear this old guy has not socialized this Staff, the guy said he seems quite proud that his Staff attacks other dogs and we were shocked , we thanked him for his time and he gave Duke a big hug, so i think we restored some faith in him and we went on our way .
Walking back to the car about ten mins later guess who we bump into yes the old guy with his Staff, and yes it was showing it's teeth at Duke hair up on the back of its neck it meant business i have no doubts about that , i said he is a bit angry isn't he , ohh aye says the old lad proper Staff he is likes a fight , i could not believe my ears and gave him some home truths , Duke started to growl back at his Staff so i pulled him away , its a sorry state of affairs when someone of his age thinks it's ok for his dog to be so aggressive , i think we will give the canal a miss from now on sadly .

Re: Stupid Staffy owner
It only takes one irresponsible owner to give the staffies a bad name best avoid that route in future

Drives you up the wall when you hear incidents like this... But we still need to keep promoting the good... we still out number the bad ones

Re: Stupid Staffy owner
What this man hasn't thought of is that if he got ill or worse, and the poor staffie needed a new home it would be nigh on impossible to rehome him.
Would just like to say though when you said - it is clear that this old guy had not socialized his staff, that is not necessarily the case as I know from experience that a well socialised dog can be DA and I think you will find that many other people will tell you the same thing. Often this behaviour will start to be most obvious at about 2 years of age.
Unfortunately this stupid man encouraged or enjoyed his dogs reaction to other dogs rather than doing anything to prevent it.
Sorry that you now have to change your walk a canal towpath walk sounds idyllic.

Re: Stupid Staffy owner
Wow, what an idiot. I guess that mentality is by no means restricted by age. Such a shame, but great of you (and Duke) to show the other owner that Staffs aren't all like that

Hopefully you pulled his winky up a little when you gave him some home truths!

Re: Stupid Staffy owner
Yeah that dog might have been aggressive and the owner ridiculous but your boy showed a true Stafford, be proud!

Re: Stupid Staffy owner
Sadly it seems that some people are very proud to show their ignorance as this old guy is obviously. They would appear to be beyond educating but we must try our best to inform them of the facts.

Re: Stupid Staffy owner
Times change, not so many years ago it was not seen as a problem to have a 'so called aggressive dog' you would keep it on a lead, problem solved, probably this older man remembers those days. It is not acting ignorant, just his remarks were ignorant. He probably loves his dog as much as anyone here on the forum. Sadly it is the younger generations that have caused most of the problems with Staffies and status dogs, just because a few Rappers in the past were seen with them.

Re: Stupid Staffy owner
Thankfully not all old people think that way. My Bacchus is 5 months old, I'm 65 and he is my first staff. My worst fear is that he will be DA. For me part of the pleasure of having a dog is meeting other dogs and their owners who, in general, are nice people. To this end Bacchus and I attend staffy classes and begin mixed breed classes on 7th Jan.
That guy's attitude just gives us wrinklies a bad name.
