Molly's first christmas eve was not a good one!
The vet has now confirmed Moll has demodectic mange poor little thing. A vets trip where she had a skin scrape, she was soooooooo good, didn't even yelp just sat there looking rather miserable and slightly scared.
So today treatment started - an Aludex shampoo. Such strict instructions and quite a harsh treatment by the sounds of the instructions. Shes just been sleeping this evening and I'm sure she was slightly cross with me so she has had lots of little treats.
Sooooooo many more pressies for the lady tomorrow! I felt so bad for her

She will be :)l although the wash was for health reaons i hated seeing her like that. She had to have a head collar on to stop her licking herself.
Tok her out briefly and she walked like a propper little show dog tail wagging and head held very high!
I love my little molly pops i do

Re: Molly's first christmas eve was not a good one!
Its a type of mite mange which cause problems in certain dogs; staff's seem prone to the condition. All dogs have the mites but certain dogs will develop the mange, various factors involved. Moll has bald spots.
You wouldn't breed from a dog with the condition because there is a genetic element involved.
Treatment involves antibiotics to avoid infection and a shampoo to kill the mites, evil little critters grrrr. Is it wrong but I'm happy that they are dying?!!
The shampoo seems rather harsh and you have to wear gloves whilst applying it. You can't dry her after and can't touch her or let her play with other dogs whilst she was drying. All in all i felt very guilty and moll got many more christmas presents. We have also arranged to go for a morning walk with her best friends too!

Re: Molly's first christmas eve was not a good one!
I know!! We got her as a rescue and she as raised on awful food (shards of bone found in her sick on the drive home) so i partially blame it on that.
Its all about whether their immune systems are tough enough to avoid an attack (thats the way i see it) and my poor little baby got unlucky with them.
Agreed. Evil little b******s!

Had this dilema earlier this year when mr decided to try get jiggy with a lady fox in garden... Vet said she was either very ill or semi demesticated...although foxes share nearly no dna with dogs mange was the big scare. Luckily nothing happend until he got a flea bite of a hedgehog of all things which caused a two month lump...they make you ill with worry dont they...

Unfortunately as we see on here quite a lot , the little buggers can be far more complicated than that but the love they give us back is unconditional so in my book it's a fair deal

Re: Molly's first christmas eve was not a good one!
Vet prescribed 50ml of aludex to 5 litres of warm water.
She was sooo much happier today and met loads of dogs on the walks
Ended up giving her presents to her early last night and more today.
She now loves me again and has forgotten the wash...unfortunately in 5-7 days time we have to repeat it doh

Thank you:) I only asked as my vet put 1 part to 5 parts of water on the bottle. When I read the instructions on the leafet, I was a bit shocked as it said to dilute 1 part to 100 parts!! I haven't used it yet for this reason. Will get in touch once the vets are back open as this is potent stuff and I could have really damaged her!
Really pleased Molly is much happier x
