Re: Childhood Memories of Xmas
I had a pony that had movable legs I had years of fun with it before the legs fell off. It had a little cart and the Barbie was Amish and sold her car to buy the pony.

I used to get chemistry sets and be disappointed that I couldn't make things that exploded or smelled of farts.

Re: Childhood Memories of Xmas
Oh, childhood memories of Christmas, dont get me started.
Well you have:-
1) The peace and stillness of Christmas Eve (in hindsight, not for my Mum, but we're talking childhood here)
2) Believing in Father Christmas
3) Not being able to sleep for excitement on Christmas Eve night - but it happened eventually (poor Father Christmas, waiting for me to succumb!)
4) Waking up early (VERY early) on Christmas morning to find a stuffed stocking at the foot of my bed
5) Waking up my parents early (VERY early) on Christmas morning to tell them what was in my stocking (WEREN'T they surprised! and pleased?)
6) The toys! Handmade puppets (did Father Christmas make them himself?) and long lost joys like toy sweetshops and indoor fireworks.
7) The timeless, peaceful joy of a REAL Christmas tree - the scent of it, the lights that DIDN'T chase themselves madly or flicker, just glowed peacefully.
Stuffing ourselves non-stop throughout Christmas Day with sweets, chocs, dates, nuts, oranges - things that just weren't available ad-lib during the rest of the year.
9) Playing games with our extended family - charades were FUN ! (unbelievable I know)
10) The feeling that this was one special day of the year.

That sounds real techno , think there was a woman in our street who worked for the local chemist so she had a soda stream , nobody else could afford one

Re: Childhood Memories of Xmas
Oh Keith - chemistry sets! Yes, where have THEY gone (elf and safety?)
I had one (thanks for reminding me) and yes, bangs and farts were few on the ground but weren't they FUN?
And poor Lisa and Cairo, never getting a Mr Frosty! My son had one, one Christmas. He enjoyed it for a while, until the the cogs gave out from grinding up ice cubes. I don't think you missed MUCH!

I used to get a chemistry set and a "Look and Learn" annual every year until I grew up aged 12 and got an awesome bike.
Couldn't sleep the night before Christmas - felt so special.
Now it's a bit, well, meh.
