Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
I wrote on here about my my bitch Blue bitch who is 2 years old about 5 weeks ago, that she got stuck with my male dog twice on her last season my boy dog is 10 and has had 2 previous litters.Well I took her to the vet twice, once after 5 weeks and a week later and on both occasions the vet felt for pups and said that no way she is pregnant.well it is 8 weeks now and she has put wait on and her nipples are producing milk and the four back ones are sagging but i am feeling for pups but still cannot feel anything. Is she going through a phantom ? Or is she pregnant ? could someone please give me some advice as i do not want to leave her alone if she is pregnant as It would be her first litter.

Re: Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
She got "stuck" - does that mean tied with your male dog?
At 8 weeks on from her season, and especially if she tied with your male dog, she could well be very pregnant.
However, a phantom pregnancy WILL show enlarged nipples producing milk.
Best thing is to go to the vet again and find out for sure.
Do let us know the outcome ....

Re: Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
OK - how long after her season ended did you visit the vet, and how long ago was that?

I took her to the vets after 5 weeks and then 6 weeks and on the first visit she said "i don't think so" so i brought her back a week later and she said definately not pregnant but now she is 8 weeks after she was first tied with the male dog and she looks pregnant to me but I have been feeling her belly for pups but cannot feel anything.

Re: Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
The only sure way is to get an ultrasound. I would go to a different vet.

Re: Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
Either way, you need to visit a vet, a competent vet.
If your bitch is pregnant, she won't be far off giving birth.
If she's not pregnant then she is suffering from a phantom, and the vet can help with that too.
Let us know what happens please!

Definitely go to a different vet and get him to check , any doubt then get them to back it up with an ultrasound. Then at least you know you have to prepare as the time would be very soon now

Re: Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
U need to get ultrasound or xray.
Vets can usually palpate for pups but she could be having just 1.
Don't risk it, make sure.
If it is a phantom the vet can give medication to dry the milk up.

Did you want your bitch to become pregnant ??
If not it may be an idea to consider having her spayed or your dog neutered. Please have a read of the link below before making any decisions though:

if you thought she could have been pregnant the vet could have given you a pill/injection to terminate any possible pregnancy

Re: Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
Definitely see a vet - preferable a different one. Many maiden bitches only have one or two pups in their first litter, and she wouldn't necessarily show that at 6 weeks. Did you tell your vet that she tied with your dog twice? If you didn't, then they may be assuming that she isn't pregnant.
Not after 5 weeks, which is when the op took her bitch to the vet. The only way to end a pregnancy at that stage would be to spay & kill any pups found.

Yes, but OP knew she had been tied twice in the season, so should have taken her straight away. Sounds a bit irresponsible having an entire male wit access to a bitch in heat - why here they not separated? Anyone else hink puppies were in a way planned?

Re: Pregnant Staffy Bitch ?
Well put a bitch in heat and a male together n it's gonna happen unless he's firing blanks !
Dosent take much to separate a male n female tbh.

I know, but during the bitch's previous seasons the dog had taken no notice of her. I'm not defending, just explaining.
The lesson to be learnt here is never trust an entire male with a bitch in season, no matter how old he is!
I sincerely hope that the bitch isn't in whelp - hopefully it's a phantom pregnancy, but if she's never suffered with them before, the chances are she's pregnant. More unplanned pups to be sold off.

More unplanned pups that will no doubt end up in some re-homing centre some where.
