Totally agree, but its the majority that think it, all we can do is educate people, wether they want to listen is up to them!

Re: .
It would be more productive if we changed the idea to instead have banned owners rather than breeds

Re: .
I'm lucky we don't have any bsl in my area yet but I can't stand the ignorance of some people. Whenever we take my 3 year old daughter to the playground I bring Sid too since they have a walking trail that runs next to the playground. While my husband takes our daughter to play I walk Sid down the trail for awhile and back. When our walk is done we come back to the playground and sit under a tree by the parking lot. I never bring her on the playground but the looks I get from some of the parents is unreal. I've heard some of them murmur about what a bad mother I am for having a pit bull blah blah blah. Dogs are allowed outside of the playground but I guess my dog isn't because she looks like a pit bull. If she ever settles down I know she would make a good therapy dog but I never did check to see if they have breed bans for therapy dogs. I still have yet to meet a mean pit bull just mean and ignorant owners.

You're so right. Instead of BSL we should have PSL (People Specific Legislation!).

Remember why the pit was banned from our country and im not at all saying that they are all the same im just remembering how it came to be, something had to be urgently done .

Re: .
Yes, but it was such a knee-jerk reaction. Banning a breed will never work, you just push the breeders underground. They should have tightened the law to include any dog out of control in a public place.
I had Bandit when that law was passed, and the public perception of the breed 'pit bull' included any large stafford! There was no education, no research, nothing! They totally ignored the fact that other breeds were just as dangerous, and could inflict even worse injuries.

Re: .
Absolutely. Spot on. I just think that there should have been more consultation with professional bodies before BSL was brought in. Knee jerk reactions are rarely thought through properly & often make matters worse.
Let's face it, Pit Bulls never did disappear from this country & are still being bred semi-openly.

Yes the law abiding owners did all they could for the breed and the back yard breeder saw it as a earner that will always be the case it was always easy to say staff cross and unfortunatly our breed became a cover up

ILovePrince wrote:Just an update guys. I rung up Petlog to get Prince's details changed over to ours and thought that, while I was already on the phone to them, I should ask what breed he is registered as. They told me Staffordshire Bull Terrier So that means that, even if he has got Pit in him, he's perfectly legal on record! I'm going to email that woman back now, then take Prince for a long walk, then I have to run some errands so I shall reply to you all individually when I get home. Take care x
at the end of the day its a dogs temprement they go by anyway. Enjoy your walk

Re: .
petlog what that?
why would you say your dog as pit him in for when it very unlikely more like a cross with another breed.

Re: .
I personally can't see how any breed is banned. Pits are meant t have been originally breed to fight another animals but are said to be people's dogs. So do they natually have the temperment to be with people or not? and when they aren't isn't that probably because of the owner and not because it's in their nasty genes

In my opinion Blue it all comes down to the owner, I know there are curcmstances were illness etc can cause a dog to change but on the whole i think it is how they are raised.

Re: .
It has to be otherwise if it was the dog, then it would mean they would have been breed with the temperment to attack humans and if you look at books about any pit breed and they are breed the opporsite........to be people dogs........so surely when attacks happen someone must think.....isn't this breed meant to be people dogs........what has made this dog different.........hmmm Owners

It depends how you look at things really. To be honest, in my opinion, there's nothing to say that the life of an animal is any less more important than that of a humans. I just don't see the justification for that point of view but that's just me
I personally bear a grudge when people act indifferent between me and my dog because he is no way hurting anyone and will actually go up to strangers, wagging his tail, if they show him attention. Fair enough, people may be ignorant and think he's scary but ignorance is no excuse. In my opinion, it's like crossing the road and giving me evil glances because I am of ethnic origin.
When my summer had just learnt to walk and insisted on walking EVERYWHERE, if i saw a dog coming i would purposley cross the road regardless of breed. How was i to know if it was a friendly dog or not? I no some people DO have a certain opinion on our bully breeds BUT i also think that SOME people are genuenly (spelling) being sensible when crossing the road /pulling child away etc.....If u dont know the dog regardless of breed as a parent or just a responsible adult u should always exercise a certain amount of caution......i do! x
