Re: I just wanna knock this woman out!!
I can see where she's coming from in that she doesn't want to risk her son getting brain damage.
But I hear tonight that she has been overuled and that her son needs urgent surgery again and he is to have it, whether she likes it or not.
We can only hope for the best for this poor little boy.

I couldn't really understand her motives either for him not having it done, I hope the surgery goes ahead and that the judgement proves to be correct.
I'm sure it will be successful

Yes Wazza, she was initially worried about brain damage arising from radiotherapy following initial surgery.
But now it's a life or death situation and he needs another operation urgently - she doesn't have much choice does she (in actual fact - no choice - the decision has been taken out of her hands).
Thank God most of us don't have to face this dilemma; we can only pray for the best outcome possible for this little boy.

Although I understand her fears, she has to see that if he doesn't get treatment he will die anyway.

I think she MUST see now that further treatment is needed to at least TRY to prevent her son from dying - anyway, the decision has been taken out of her hands.
And no, brain tumours are not to messed with - I just happen to think that this poor mum was clinging to the hope that the initial surgery would be successful and she feared that radiotherapy would destroy her son's intellect. A TERRIBLE situation for any parent to cope with.
As it happens, her son has taken a turn for the worse and further surgery is neccessary to at least TRY to save this little boy's life.
To be honest, it doesn't look like a good outcome and we can all only thank God that we haven't been in this situation.
And incidentally, my daugher's life-long friend died of a brain tumour aged 35. She had had an operation, but the rest of the tumour was inoperable.

some people. Maybe if the house catches fire we should leave the kids in the house as their is a risk they will get knocked over by the fire engine outside. Or we could just take them out the house so they have a chance of living!!!

There are lots of people who refuse radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The only difference is that she was deciding it for her child rather than him making the decision himself. Anyway, it's one of those situations where you're torn between letting your child probably die, or giving them treatment that you think could do them immense harm. No-one can tell me they wouldn't be conflicted about that even for a moment.

Absolutely. Thank heaven that we none of us are in this situation.
