AN INTRODUCTION TO ELLA
Here are a few photo's of the many hundred I have taken on my journey of being an independent dog owner for the last 12 months or so.
A little about myself, I have many trades and skills behind me including Precision Engineering, Project Management, Solar and IRS Design, Maintenance, Service & Installation and am currently back in an Engineering Manufacturing role. I relocated to North Devon after spending most of my life in Essex, I divorced too many years ago to remember; and have grown up with dogs in the family. About this time last year, my life changed to the point where I had more free time on my hands and I have always wanted my own dog. I chose a Staffie as I have friends with them and also I knew Ella's parents and owners very well.
I wanted a bitch, and when the litter of 7 was born there were 6 dogs and 1 bitch; that kind of narrowed my choice down somewhat
Anyhow, I gave Mum time to get used to the change in her lifestyle being a first time Mum; and it was two weeks before I visited to meet the litter of pups.
Here is the litter, Ella is at the back in the centre
And my first picture of her on her own aged just two weeks
I went back at least once a week to bond with her, and this is a visit 3 weeks later at 5 weeks old
Another few visits before taking her to the vets for her first check over and immunizations at 8 weeks old, and then bringing her to her new home.
Here she is on the first day I got her home, looking a bit sorry for herself and bewildered by the whole episode I guess
She soon settled in and then one day when I had literally just popped out for 5 mins I came back to this
This was to continue for a few months and several beds later she finally stopped chewing.
This was her first ever walk in the big outdoors after her second set of inoculations and micro chip fitting, aged 11 weeks at Instow Coastal Resort, North Devon on a recce visit
Eventually I moved to North Devon in April this year, but not before taking her on her first trip night fishing with me; and here she is snuggled up in my sleeping bag; aged 6 months
After the move and settling in, she now enjoys several trips to the beach and parks
With Dad's chocolate lab Bertie, and Mum's Poodle Frazer
A trip to Norfolk with friends, aged 11 months
Showing off her new Birthday coat, 1 year old
One of those infamous Staffy smiles, 13 months old
In late November she developed a limp on her right rear leg, and upon vets examination and x-ray I was informed that she had a heavy cruciate ligament tear, this was operated on immediately and this was taken the day after the op when she came home
Just 3 weeks have passed since and she is recovering very well, getting plenty of rest (much to her disgust I might add), and here she is taken earlier today.
I hope you've enjoyed seeing her progress, I know I've enjoyed watching her change, grow and develop into a lovely lovely dog that doesn't deserve the bad reputation that they have in some circles.
If OK with admin/moderators; I will add updates on her recovery progress on this thread
Regards,
Nick & Ella

Oh what a gorgeous girl!
I'm so sorry to hear about her leg problem which must have been a worry for you, but she looks as if everything went well.

Thanks to all for your kind words
She is my baby, and I love her dearly. Loved sharing her story with you all, and really appreciate your kind words
I have A LOT of reading to do on here, and am very pleased to have stumbled upon this forum this morning
I've told her that you all approve, but also that nobody loves her like Daddy does

What a lovely story and lovely photos... I love seeing the 'timelines'. They just change so much so quickly. Hope her leg heals up nicely.

Re: AN INTRODUCTION TO ELLA
Thanks Jo & Clare,
Yes one of the things I made sure I did was take plenty of photos of her as she was a puppy, like you say they change and grow so fast.
When I was putting this timeline together yesterday I couldn't believe how much she'd changed, and the one photo that really shocked me was the one of her first walk. I have another photo of me praising her afterwards, and my hand on her back stroking her almost covers her whole body bless her

Here's a real cheeky picture of her on a recent trip to Oxford fishing with me
