Re: .
Poor prince! I haven't much experience with things like that. The eye I would definatly make sure the vets realise how worried you eye about it. Moo had an ear infection once and I had drops that put in and then I had to massage the bottom of the ear where you could hear the ointment going deeper in. Hope Prince feels better soon x

Re: .
How old is Prince? Cataracts tend to appear on older dogs. Do you know if he has been tested for any hereditary eye problems?
If you're not happy you can always get a second opionion from another vet - you don't need to accept any treatment at this stage, just have a consultation.

To be honest, if the current vets aren't clearing up the pre existing issues, I would take him to a new vet.
Molly was constantly getting UTI when she was younger, we went away on holiday to my parents and she got one up there, the vet we went to was one my parents have used for years, and instead of just pumping Molly full of antibiotics, she actually asked questions about her diet and suggested changes. A vet should be able to clear something like ear mites up pretty quickly, in my opinion, so a second opinion may be a good idea especially on something so important as the eyes, even if it's nothing, it's better to get them checked even if it's just to put your mind at rest.

Re: .
For the earmites I recomend stronghold spot on treatment and you can usually buy it in packs of 3 so lasts 3 months it controls fleas and mites.
As for the eyes cataracts can occur in any age dog but if your boy has a bad case of ear mites they travel around the dog were its warm and wet like eyes under the tail ect so it may just be that he has a really bad dose of mites. If your dog has a cataract forming they are cloudy on the lens and when severe a bluey cast the vet would have pointed out to you a cataract im sure try the stronghold see how you go

I would, but it's the closest charity vets to us, and at the moment, neither me, or my Auntie can afford extortionate private vet bills. But I will investigate another option. Thank you.
Ah, I full understand that. If you are claiming benefits, and have a local vet that runs the PDSA scheme near you, you should be able to get cheap or possibly free treatment, as far as I know.

Re: .
Using the drops is good you should continue but as the mites are at different stages of development its hard to kill them all and they will just breed again stronghold covers the entire dog to give a barrier against the mites some dogs around the eyes become inflamed and the fur grows thin they look like a pandas eyes. Stronghold kills the mites as they develop and protects them from re infestation . all dogs on photos eyes are blue when the flash is used as its the reaction to the flash im sure the vet would have noticed a catarac developing

He's about three I think, however, he does have some grey hairs on his muzzle? :/ I don't think he's been tested for any eye problems. And, yes, maybe I should do that actually.
The grey hair's nothing - Bandit started to go gray when he was 18 months old! I wouldn't have thought it's cataracts, to a vet they'd be quite distinctive & I wouldn't have thought they'd have missed that. In fact if it's only one eye, you can rule out Hereditary Cataracts as they would be affect both eyes. They'd also start to appear long before now...............
Hereditary CataractHereditary cataract in the Staffordshire bull terrier was first reported in the United Kingdom in 1976. The condition is not congenital, so puppies are born with normal eyes, but cataracts begin to appear at a few weeks to months in age, progressing to total cataracts by 2 to 3 years of age. This cataract is always bilateral, symmetrical in the two eyes, and progressive until total with resultant blindness.

My girl had ear mites a few years wgo, a bugger to get rid of but I used advocate spot-on (not tried stronghold before so cant comment) and antibiotic ear drops and they cleared up in 3 or 4 weeks.

In the end the whole of his muzzle was grey, but he had quite a few grey hairs around his muzzle by the time he was 18 minths old!! He's just over 2 years old here.

Re: .
Caryll that pic of bandit is gorgeous!
I too would recommend thornit powder. I've never used it myself, but I know a couple who rescue mastiffs, they've had some dogs that have come to them in a right state, some had terrible ear mites and they swear by thornit powder for it.
