Re: our thelma
yeah ours is a rescue, got her from the dogs trust. we know a little about her past. she came from scotland where she was abused and her 1st adopted parents diddnt obide by the rules (muzzling her in public) and she bit another dog so they gave her back to the dogs trust. shes got alot of issues, abaondonment problems/messing indoors and is aggressive to other animals but wont give up on her lol your right miley and thelma looks very alike, both beautiful

Re: our thelma
we had similar problems with Miley we found a crate useful and also a training lead 50 foot one. She didnt know many commands except sit and give paw. We have taught her to wait when out walking near the road. Also she can lay down roll over etc. We also found hiding treats round the room and let her find them was a good way of initiating play she loves her hide and seek. When we got her she ran away twice once across a road and she did not understand the words come here. Thanks to the training lead and treats in pocket and sheer persistence she will come when called 90% of the time and she gets better every day. Im sure Thelma will improve in time

Re: our thelma
thelma diddnt even know her name when we got her. she diddnt know what a garden and snow was. recall? no idea of that either. she did know to sit by a road and she never ever pulls on her lead. she can sit stay give paw say mam high 5 wave and play dead now lol bought her a kong but shes not interested. ive been to scared to try a crate for her as she suffered kennel stress at the dogs trust. she knows to go to the garden to pee etc now but when i leave her alone even for 10 mins at a time she'll panic and have an accident and attack the bin even if i leave her teddys and treats out for her. ohh well i can only keep trying with her

Re: our thelma
poor girl sounds like she has had a rough time. Patience and repeating things to her may help. It took Miley 7 months to trust us and i reckon it will take Thelma alot longer. I dont know what to suggest regarding the messing in the house. You could try letting her in the garden at regular intervals and after eating etc. Its such a shame to hear about dogs that have been abused or mistreated. Well done for taking her in and im sure in time she will learn to trust you and improve. Keep posting on her progress though

Re: our thelma
What a beautiful girl! Well done for taking her on.
Sounds like she has a touch of seperation anxiety. Try leaving her for a minute at a time, and gradually increase it. Don't make any special signs that you're going out; don't say goodbye or fuss her, you need to make it a normal, every day thing that is of no consequence to her!

Re: our thelma
yeah weve been working on that since day 1 with her. she just barks and cries and jumps about till she wets herself anyway. ive chatted with the neighbours and they say she makes no noise when im out only barks when the post man comes lol. sometimes shes perfectly well behaved then shes back to her old ways the next day. shes come so far in many other ways thoe. she was terrified of water when we first adopted her (shes still not had a bath since we got her we make do with doggy wet wipes) we couldnt take her out in the rain she'd just lay down cower and cry. now she goes for walkies in the rain not a problem but the sound of the taps running terrifies her
