Hello All
Hi everyone, just found your site and I'll be off to post in the health section in a minute...
I Andy and my Staffie is Storm he is of course the best Staffie in the world
I got Storm when he was approximately 3 years old from a rescue centre in Plymouth (gables farm if you're local) He was brought in as a stray. I will have had him four years come February.
He's brindle with white bib and boots. I have friends who show Staffies and they thought he was perfect and then they noticed he had a slightly undershot jaw, but as he's all pet it really makes no diference to me. Like every Staff I've ever met he's great with people and he is also great with other dogs, he basically treats everyone like his new best friend which is ideal. Even when other dogs snap at him he just thinks it's a game of chase and off he goes...
He doesn't like some german sheperds or some boxer type dogs, so I have to keep an eye on him when we come across them, he'll bark quite aggressively at the ones he doesn't like, but doesn't physically attack them, when this has happened he will come to me but I do have to shout to get him to respond. It is rare for this to happen probably three times in the four years I've had him. He has bit one dog since I had him which was a pit bull that bit him first as Storm was playing with the bitch that the pit bull lived with. Luckily neither he or the other dog wasn't hurt badly as we were stood chatting right next to them and was able to separate them very quickly.
He was house trained and knew sit and paw, I've taught him to roll over and recall is good, I've often had to walk to other owners and call him so that they could catch their own dogs The one thing I've struggled with is to stop him jumping up, he has muddied a few strangers trousers if they say hello to him and when people come into the house it can be a bit worrying if they are elderly as he's no lightweight.
I've signed up to photobucket so here are a few pics, the bed was a Jack Russels bed by the way he just borrowed it

Re: Hello All
Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Have you tried having people turn around and ignore him when he jumps up?

Hi and thanksKat75 wrote:And Hi and welcome from Me n Steffi He is a gorgeous boy
He was one of the few dogs at the rescue centre that didn't bark at us, he wondered over and pushed himself up against the mesh so I could stroke him I fell for him there and then , looked at the other dogs but kept going back to him, reserved him there and then, would have taken him that day to get him out of there, it must be stressful for them and I suppose thats why most of the dogs bark at you, the rescue center wouldn't let you take a dog until they did a house inspection.

Re: Hello All
Hi and thanks. No I haven't tried that, I shall try it out. We did try a method, we were told, of putting our hands at waist level whilst crossing them, it wasn't very effective though.jstaff wrote:Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Re: Hello All
It takes some time and patience but ignoring him is a good method. He just wants attention so if you do the opposite he will modify his behaviour.

Re: Hello All
Yeah, that's true. I'm so glad he did. He brings a smile to my face everyday and gives me great pleasure. I was lucky to get him, the kennel girl couldn't believe he had been there so long, he spent just over 4 month at the centre and she said if she had had the room she would have had him herself. I've seen her since whilst walking him and she had five dogs of various breeds. He was the first dog she would go to in the mornings and recognised him instantlyKat75 wrote:Aww sweet story yeah sometimes they just pick you not you pick the dog

Re: Hello All
hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me
Thanks for the introduction, a lot of what you say about your dog is true of Rocky too. He doesn't like boxer dogs, despite his name. He is also from a rescue centre and just came and sat in front of the fencing, didn't bark and just looked at us.
We also reserved him there and then, then went back a few days later to pick him up.

This is a another favourite of mine, we were having a get together and as he didn't have anywhere to lie down in the kitchen he decided that the washing basket would do...Caryll wrote:Hi & welcome to the forum. Storm's a very handsome lad!
