That's actually happened! Steve the grumpy Boa decided he wanted to coil himself around my waist. It was a wee bit uncomfortable!Kat75 wrote:Ohh no although must admit when I saw the title I was expecting boa constrictor or something
But yeah, stupid me got my finger caught between Herbie's shell and his leg. Actually quite lucky - they can easily break your fingers in half!

I doubt Herbie even knew it had happened, to be honest. The lecturer asked me to lift his rear end up, so that we could check his tail (he'd injured it earlier). Herbie moved forwards suddenly and drew his legs in, and my hand slipped underneath the shell.
Can't say that I blame him! He was very interested in mounting his lady friend.

Re: Eleanor has been crushed by.....
Not sure about his weight, but he's twenty years old. And already bigger than his older friends! It takes four people to lift him. And he'll continue to mount her for as long as he likes it - forever. She, however, does not like it.dave742 wrote:how old and heavy is lucky old Herbie? . He's actually very quick! He gets this fixed look in his eye when he starts chasing her. She'll try to escape, but he always manages to corner her. He's not very good at aiming, though - I caught him having a go with her head a couple of weeks ago!

Re: Eleanor has been crushed by.....
Just checked. He's the largest species of mainland tortoise in the world, so he still has a lot of growing left to do!
According to the database, he's about 90kg!

Haha, I don't think she'd appreciate that! And yes, I was surprised as well! He also loves to hiss at people.

I consider myself very lucky, even if I do get injured! A saying I've picked up is 'If you don't get hurt at some point, you're not doing it right!'.dave742 wrote:It's amazing all the different animals that you look after your very lucky, well maybe not when your injuring your fingers but still lucky . And if it helps, his actual name doesn't have Giant in it. He's an African Spurred Tortoise.

Love will always prevail! At least, that's what Horny Herbie believes.
And thank you!

Arr lol that old chestnut, sorry love I didn't realise I got the wrong end and that was your head. If I had a pound for everytime I heard that one......well I would have a quid, not stupid enough to try it twice.
Hope your fingers are better soon. Does this mean you won't be able to do any chores around the house for a while?

It's worse when the other male is having a go with the lady! Herbie comes ploughing over and sticks his head right into the danger zone!BlueStaffBlue wrote:Arr lol that old chestnut, sorry love I didn't realise I got the wrong end and that was your head.
