Re: Steve
depend what type of road i'm on if the road is always busy or one of the country road that people speed then i will use pavement.
Re: Steve
It's just that I had a massive argument with a guy this morning. He was riding his bike on the pavement & he nearly ran Dempsey over! I mean he mised him by about a hair!
I told him that riding the bike on the pavement was illegal & he said "I don't care, the road's too dangerous for me!" What about pedestrians? I saw a little old man recently knocked over by a cyclist on the pavement!
I said that if it was too dangerous he shouldn't ride the bike, but he didn't see the funny side of that.

Re: Steve
The thing is the roads are bad for cyclists......too many bad drivers and it only takes one and it can be lethal.
But as Steve says you take care when people are about. You have to realise your not meant to be there and give way etc to people/dogs walking

Re: Steve
I understand all that, and people riding bikes on the pavement don't bother me as long as they move out of the way of pedestrians (and their dogs!). It's reallt bad round here. You literally can't go more than 200 yards without someidiot whizzing past you on a bike.
But it also goes the other way - I've seen so many bad cyclists doing ridiculously stupid things on the road, like trying to squeeze between 2 vehicles waiting at traffic lights, or just pulling out from a side turning or the curb right in front of traffic and without looking!

Re: Steve
When I was a kid, the police used to come round the schools every year & put children with bikes through the Cycling Profficiency Test. They'd set up in the playground & mark up the ground to look like a road with zebra crossing, turnings, side roads etc & you'd have to go round it without making mistakes. They gave a talk beforehand, and you had a little test after. If you passed you got a certificate.
I know there was nowhere near the amount of traffic on the road then, but at least kids knew what to do on the road.
