Anyone watch the boxing last week with Froch headlining? I know he is an idiot but he is boxing so well at the moment.
Anyone watching Hatton's comeback tomorrow?

Watched it last night. Hatton wasn't a shadow of his old self but thanks for all the great fights Ricky, you always picked the hardest fights. Well done!

Anyone watch Freddy Flintoff fight?
I also watched Price, who beat skelton in 2 rounds. I tip Price to defeat Tyson Fury and one day become Heavyweight Champion

Yeah me im a big boxing fan i watched Amir since he was 11 years old , i think he boxed very well he wasnt gung ho and attacked in short burst , the lad has the fastest hands in the game for sure, he will hammer Garcia in the return the fact is Garcia got a lucky punch last time out, but as a boxer i believe Amir has boxed better journeymen than Garcia .

Re: Boxing
I thought Amir boxed very well but still had a couple of wild moments he needs to get rid of if he is going to be the best. So frustrating with him at times because his boxing ability and amazing speed counts for nothing when he has these moments because no matter what he thinks he doesn't have a great chin. He can beat Garcia if he out boxes him but I don't think Garcia was lucky I think Khan let him pick him off by having one of his mad moments.
Once Khan starts boxing he will beat most opponents

I agree Amir did have his chin high a couple of times and it's something he needs to work on .

Re: Boxing
Yes i saw it and what a punch it was , i used to box as a young lad and i coached as well for a while, one thing that was taught to us was to put all into an uppercut and when you throw it sit down on it, and boy did marquez sit on that one manny was asleep before he hit the canvas .BlueStaffBlue wrote:Managed to catch up and watch the manny pacquiao v marquez fight last night. Agreed although i suspect Mayweather may want the fight with Manny now , but Hatton never recovered from Manny sparking him out so will Manny recover from being sparked out ? .BlueStaffBlue wrote:It was a great punch. Shame cos it's looking even less likely we will get to see Manny V Mayweather now

Re: Boxing
I think Manny doesn't need to. It's coming to the end of his era, nothing he can't achieve that he hasn't done already. Personally I think Mayweather is by far the best pound for pound but the fight is years too late already.
Manny and Mayweather will both go down as ledgends in the sport IMO

Re: Boxing
Tricky one Mike , Manny won ten world titles, as well as the first to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes.
He was named "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000s (decade) by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). He is also a three-time The Ring and BWAA "Fighter of the Year," winning the award in 2006, 2008 and 2009, and the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 2009 and 2011.[7]
He was long rated as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world by some sporting news and boxing websites, including ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Sporting Life, Yahoo! Sports, About.com, BoxRec and The Ring.
In April 2012, Pacquiao dropped to number two in the rankings, behind Floyd Mayweather, Jr. However on May 7, 2012, The Ring declared the top position vacant and jointly ranked Pacquiao and Mayweather in the number two spot.
Mayweather He is a five-division world champion, who has won eight world titles and the Lineal championship in three different weight classes.
For me Manny has been the most entertaining of the two i will never forget the way he dismantled a much bigger Cotto with fast combinations , so it's Manny for me .

Re: Boxing
I have to agree Manny has entertained me more as he is more aggressive but Mayweather has 12 rounds and still looks the same as he did when he started the fight. The bloke just technically is phenomenal.
So many great fights with Manny. Loved the Morales and Marquez fights but i think Mayweather just is too good technically and could pick any fighter off over 12 rounds. But whoever would win, it would be one amazing fight even today, but would loved to have seen this fight a few years ago

Re: Boxing
Gotta be Mike Tyson for me, explosive power and the accuracy of his punches was too good. On his day, he'd beat anyone and majority of the time, would win the fight before he even got into the ring. He put fear into his opponents.

I think Mike Tyson is one of the greatest fighters. That is one bloke I would refuse to fight Never understand people when they say Ali would of had him. I think Ali could of had 100 fights with Tyson and he would of lost everyone. Ali was quick but he could of been flash gorden with concrete filled gloves. It wasn't until Tyson was older that we realised he was human

I think Ali would have definately taken Tyson in at least 7 out of 10 fights. Tyson had no boxing skills just pure power and intimidation. Fun to watch but not effective against elite fighters. Not that I've followed boxing since about 1995 though. Ali had a great chin and could have fought Tyson the same way he did Foreman with the rope a dope.

Hmm.. I gotta agree with Mike on this one, I think Tyson (in his youthful prime) would have took Ali. Ali was by far the better boxer, without a doubt, but if Tyson caught him with one of his hayemakers, Ali would be out cold, anyone would be. Not taking anything away from Ali, but Tyson is a power punching machine, probably the best in the history of the sport.

Re: Boxing
I know in Ali's day there were allot of great fighters. A great era for heavyweights. Apart from the obvious when Tyson was only down for 5 seconds and got back up straight away and was counted out. NO ONE rocked Tyson in his day. Not sure a little bee sting would of shock him. I have watched countless fights where Ali was rocked time after time even in his prime. Don't remember Tyson having to pretend he was sorting out his gloves for 5 mins while he come round. It took Tyson less than 5 mins to walk in finish the fight, walk out and go home

Re: Boxing
If Tyson in his prime caught Ali than yes he could have one. That can be said of any fight though. Tyson IMHO only fought one elite fighter which was Holyfield and he didn't dominate in any of those matches. Everyone else he fought was average at best. Anyone knocked out by James Douglas can't be considered elite in my book.
Tyson was very entertaining though. He just had a horrible manager and surrounded himself with the wrong people

Hmm.. you've got a point there JStaff, I just looked at his opponents list and theres not anyone of note in there, apart from Holyfield, Lennox Lewis (whom he fought after his prime) and Razor Ruddock, his opponents were nothing special. Where as Ali, fought almost every big name in his time and produced a great fight in each, win or loss.

Re: Boxing
I thought he thought Bruno in his peak. One of the biggest punches ever in the heavyweight division. I see the names and can't see any names that aren't there that were worth mentioning. It wasn't Tyson avoiding the likes of Lennox Lewis. Ali was fighting in an era with great fighters but you can only beat whats put in front of you. I just don't think Ali would if been able to cope with the power, better boxer than Tyson but he didn't give anyone room to box.

Re: Boxing
Hard to compare eras. Tyson is a great power puncher who didn't have much to compete with but not much of a boxer and had questionable cardio sine he seldom had to go into the deep water
