Horsey ppl ?
I have volunteered to knock up a shelter for a freinds daughter who has rescued a pony from slaughter .. and she's turned out to be pregnant ... and currently living in a feild (the pony, not the daughter before Dave starts )
I dont know owt else about it yet (or pony's ) but it tugged at my heart strings straight away ... so I'm going to do what I can to help
My question is, does it need to face south to catch a little sun, or anything like that ... I reckon I have enough waterproof ply, and treated timber to make three walls, and an apexed roof so that wont cost them anything (and is all they said they needed) that can be stocked with straw or whatever, and sheild them from the weather over winter, but I have no idea about a ponys needs, and I get the impression money is very tight, which is why I wanted to help ... at the end of the day, it has saved this poor little lady from the bullet ><
Any advice ?

Andy I'm no horsey person but my friend is and she said as long as the door doesn't face north (cos when the north wind blows we will have snow) it should be fine,a good layer of straw and they happy apparently, I hope this is correct and helps

Re: Horsey ppl ?
sorry was getting my nails done
face the door east or south depending on what way the field is. if the pony is going to be having the foal outside you might want to put a long gate (like the gate to a field) onto the door and put wood on it so it acts as a wind breaker but is still nice and open so not a "stable"
make sure you dont leave anything like nails or screws, if you drop one get on ya hands and knees and get it back
i hope they know what they are in for cause foals are very annoyingly sensitive to dying lol

Nice one Andy. Good man.
I did my good deed yesterday when I gave blood. Not as grand as your good deed, but as the women say its the little things that count

No idea Kathy, but I know the pony will be looked after now .. otherwise there's no way I would have anything to do with them

Re: Horsey ppl ?
make sure it is very well anchored to the ground.
A near neighbour erected one that blew over (in one piece) despite having 2ft steel pegs holding it down!
