Great pictures I used to go horse-riding when I was a kid, and on-and-off until a while back. Miss it

What lovely photos!
I did a bit of riding at school & when I used to stay with a friend in Wiltshire, but I never carried it on once I started work - shame, I loved riding. I was no good at it, but I loved it all the same!

Ah Hayley, what memories you brought back to me. I still miss my first pony too and feel so guilty that I sold him. He could be a little sod, and I grew too big for him, but how I wish I hadn't sold him and instead kept him to the end of his life. Tears and regrets
Your current steed looks like a lovely pony, and as to your future steed - how gorgeous is that! I'll fight you for him!

So proud of my boy today. i have really been debating getting another horse cause he just wasn't really working out and riding wasn't great. Well after a new saddle, new bit, new stirrups and a bit of advice from other riders, i finally got him to go very well today
Im still too big for him really, height and weight, but i am loosing weight steadily. Ill never be shorter though lol so he will have to do for a while until i gather money to get a bigger boy.

He looks as if he's going beautifully. sometimes it takes new tack - a saddle can be uncomfortable to the pony, and an ill-fitting/wrong bit much worse.
He's a sturdy pony and your feet don't hang below his girth, so don't worry about him being too small for you.
Enjoy!

Needed a new saddle badly as he had none, but have been arsing about with bits for ages and have had to buy a new bridle (its stubben ) but yea tack is so important. My feet are up another hole, they felt a little too long up there lol
I just can't do very much with him atm cause i am not going to pretend im like nothing on him, so i don't jump and don't do excessive canter work. Hes very forward and always trying his best to please, but i cant tell the exact moment he gets enough, then i stop and get off.
He is overweight too and is surely unfit, but compared to 4 months ago he has lost about 50kg, ive lost a stone and we have both got from going 10mins rides to 20-25mins rides and can easily go 2miles without him feeling it! It might not sound much and i'm sure the SPCA would Loooooove me haha but we're doing okay, we'll get there. he gave me my inspiration back <3

Re: Life time of ponies - My Diary
Sorry I haven't been in touch lately Hayley, but I've been having strife with my internet connection.
It looks like you have him at livery (judging by the indoor school, unless that's yours you lucky thing!) in which case I am sure you have plenty of expert advice available. But to my eye you still don't look too big or heavy for him - how high is he?
And in your last pic, his bit is puzzling me - it looks like a D-ring snaffle but with a curb chain?
I wish I still had my old pony ......

the indoor is mine, its just a covered walker though its not an arena. i travel to the outdoor arena which is my local riding schools. so im pretty alone!! lol
The bit is a kimblewick bit lol he doesn't like jointed bits and has no stopping power in a snaffle so the curb gives a bit of pressure. Its a great bit!
hes 15.1 or 15.2 depending on if he has shoes on haha

Re: Life time of ponies - My Diary
I can't admit to being a good rider and knowing a lot, i'm on my own so don't really get a lot of feedback. But i have been working on extending Jagos trot basically by a few tips i get from people online.
So got this out of him today, crappy photo but you can see his legs lol. This little fella is teaching me so much.
Little video too.

Got internet connection again (probably only temporarily).
Wondered if it was a Kimbelwick, I've never come across one.
Lovely pic of an extended trot - well done!

Re: Life time of ponies - My Diary
Went on my first hack up the hunter lane in about a year or more. I went out on xmas day hoping for a quiet hack with noone on the roads but my road is funny and as soon as i go onto it about 245- cars decide to go past. There was puddles everywhere and i couldn't be arsed with a spooking horse. So up the lane.
As i mentioned i have not been up it in ages, mainly cause my last horse refused to go up it alone and the horse i have now was too fat and unfit (as was i, so it really wasn't fair on him, its very steep!!!)
But im happy to say that he got up it without any huffing or puffing, had a good gallop (its been SOOO long ) and came back down without tumbling over and he wasn't even sweating. He was drenched from the large puddle we galloped thorugh though
Wish i had had someone to take better pics than this silly one haha

You both look great Hayley!
But how do you manage to weigh a horse?

Lol, there is a tape with weights on it. It is not accurate, but it is enough to show loss or gain. It is a little like measuring the inches of your waist to calculate your own weight loss.
It goes up to 603kg, Jago was on the low side of 518kg today. He was at least 1 inch over 603kg at his biggest!
