Re: Kat
Ohh wow you guys are lucky we are home to some of the deadliest snakes in the world
These are the 2 types that are in the bush behind my house.. The brown snake is what has killed the 4 dogs in my area, and they are vicious snakes they WILL chase you
The red belly is almost as deadly but it will only bite if you annoy it, or step on it

Re: Kat
And don't forget the blue ringed octopus, box jelly fish, stone fish Our beaches are just as deadly as our bush... It's really not as bad as you think you don't regularly bump into deadly animals
But in saying all that there is nowhere else I would rather live.. It truly is a beautiful country

Re: Kat
oo i forgot we have a couple Venomous spiders that is related to the black window that is starting to move north
Re: Kat
Is that all
Bite symptoms are usually no more severe that a bee or wasp sting, but a handful of those who have been bitten have described more acute symptoms including throbbing pain, swelling and tingling in the fingers.
Thats a nothing spider, we have a white tailed spider that causes necrosis (skin and flesh to die) and a bite from redback or funnel web can kill an adult man in hours

Re: Kat
So basically...you're all mad? I mean, what other explanation is there to live in a place filled to the brim with poison, bites and pain? INSANITY. Nice place though, lots of exotic creatures, nice place to visit if you can get your hands on a suit of armour...but then you'd die of heat exhaustion. There's just no winning in Australia

It really is beautiful here and unless you live in the more remote areas you generally don't see many of them.. Spiders are the only ones that you will commonly see if your live in the cities

You can have the poisonous ones Ella We had a diamond python as a pet when I was younger, but as he got older he hated my 1st son so much we ended up giving him to the Reptile Park for their breeding program

Re: Kat
Steve, the Slow Worm isn't a snake, it's a lizard. The other snake we have here is the Smooth Snake.

That's what I mean, it's not like it's a daily occurence to bump into animals that are gonna kill you

Re: Kat
Me too, Steve. Never been so much as stung by a bee before. There's a reason for that; it's all going to add up so it becomes a bite by a massive, poisonous snake

I wouldn't worry too much about it. All spiders have a certain amount of venom in them - a lot of it depends on whether or not they are physically able to pierce the skin. False Widows rarely bite and the symptoms are generally limited to swelling and nausea. Not that it makes the idea any more pleasant. Eurgh!

Damn, I was just about to say that!
Smooth Snakes are only ever seen in the South, sadly. Very low populations, as well. I'd love to see one.
