Raw - what can't she eat?
Ok, Steff is 4 months old tomorrow, and finally her big girl teeth are all coming through I have been already feeding her for a while on a mix of raw and dry.. She has dry food in the morning and lunch and usually chicken necks, chicken carcasses, chicken or lamb mince for dinner. My butcher puts her together a bag of meaty bones every week when they get fresh stock in and also some innards.. Today he has given me a bag of really meaty lamb bones which she will love for dinner tonight.. My question is what can't she have?? Are there any meats or bones to steer clear of?? Also at 4mnths how much should I be feeding her??

Depends of you want to feed full raw or carry on with some dry. I'd personally ditch the kibble but that's just me.
As in terms of why she can eat, EVERYTHING all meat sources and bones. The only ones I don't feed are the large leg bones from large animals I.e cows.
If you want to feed fully raw then amounts are 2-3% of ideal expected adult body weight. Do bare in mind that's just a guide to start with and that you then adjust on how her body condition looks to thin/porky etc.

Thanks Ella The plan has always been to ditch the kibble, but as a pup that was hard as 3 feeds a day etc.. As of today I didn't give here kibble at lunch (although she had a sneaky bone from the butcher) She is just about to have some off cuts from our dinner, we had beef casserole, and some lamb ribs.. Just ordered a rabbit, but got it skinned for the the first one and see how she goes.. She has never liked any organs so hoping she will develop a taste for them..
So just no cow legs, and I saw on your raw thread, you gave the boys lamb legs, but mentioned there is a bone in them they can't eat? Is that right?

it isn't that they can't eat them, it's more that when they've taken all the meat off there's too much bone left. They'd end up constipated, especially if they're getting other bones in their food.

Ahhh Ok.. I see..
Also as she is still a pup, should I still give kibble for now in the morning, or should I break up her daily raw food into 2 feeds?

After 3 or 4 months my pups tend to not bother with their lunch time meal, I usually change to two meals around that time unless they are acting hungry then they get a bone or something at lunch time.

No lambs legs are fine to eat. It was a cows leg I said they aren't allowed the bone from. It's only the weight bearing bones from much larger animals I don't give.
Yer I'd ditch the kibble and just split the raw over 3 meals alot of dogs don't like organs try giving them frozen as they are an essential part of the diet.

As part of Cassie's raw diet i feed her organs(but not the organ grinder sorry ) that my butcher happily minces for me and he also puts in the off cuts of meat scraps really cheaply which i presume makes it taste better, but i put garlic, ginger in it and olive oil to give it some different taste.Others may say thats wrong but the best critic Cassie loves it

Re: Raw - what can't she eat?
Thanks for all the advice And tips,. I will take them all on..
I gave her a lamb heart (I think ) with dinner last night and she didn't touch it, when she finished I froze it with the hope to try another day, so I will try it frozen tonight.. If that dosen't work I will need to get organs minced for now I know they are essential and without them her diet will be lacking
I will finish off the bag of kibble that I have now, It's not even a weeks worth, then I will spread the raw meals over morning and evening..

right offal/organs whatever you want to call it in raw is:
any secreting organ. So that is:
liver
kidney
brain
sweetbread
etc
non secreting organs are just fed as meat, so:
lungs
heart
etc
so non secreting organs can be fed as much technically as you want if your dog can tolerate it of course!
Hope that makes sense!

Re: Raw - what can't she eat?
Yep thanks perfect sense So the secreting organs must be fed to complete the dietary reqs.. So the heart in my freezer is not a requirement
