Argh I'm so stressed out! In the last few weeks Bis has started to get itchy spots and rashes on her legs and tummy, there have been no changes to her food or bedding, but I have recently started exercising her in a different field with really long grass and a few stinging nettles dotted about. She seems to have gotten into a habit of chewing them, and will chew them until the fur is sparse and the skin is sore. I had some malaseb hanging around so I gave her a bath with that and bought some piriton to see if it would help.
Came home from work today, no different to any other day and she had been to the toilet indoors which she never does as she's fully house trained, she came downstairs and was really tucked up and creeping around, wouldn't come over and see me. I sat and called her over and gave her a check over and she has chewed underneath her front leg joint so much that it's heavily swollen and seeping, there's no fur left on it at all, it looks so, so sore and just nearly had me in tears and she's limping about the poor thing I've bathed it in warm salt water and got some metacam left over so i've given her a dose of that and booked a vet appointment for tomorrow. She's got her head collar on to stop her from chewing at it, but she's just sat next to me shaking like a leaf, I really don't understand what's happened or what to do

Re: :( :(
It does sound like some sort of allergy, doesn't it? Other than the bathing, the piriton & the vets, I wouldn't like to sugest anything else.
I'd bathe it again before you go to bed, and maybe smear some sudocrem (if you have some) over the sore bits to ease any itchiness.
Poor little girl.

Re: :( :(
I would agree with Caryll, a little sudocreme should help with the healing process, it does sound like an allergic reaction to something. Please let us know how you get on with veterinary tomorrow. ><

Re: :( :(
Ah, poor Biscuit, I know how she feels, I hope it heals up soon. If you have any cream that can help relieve the pain or itching, that might help, but besides that, there's nothing more you can do until you see the vet.

Hope the vet can help. It could be an allergy from something in the new field ><

Re: :( :(
Just got back from the vets, she's got fox mange Apparently there's loads of it going around in the area at the moment, and they've had 10 cases in the past fortnight alone! Steroids for a few days, fortnightly advocate and fuciderm gel for the big flare up! Anyone had any experience of this? She's so uncomfortable bless her

Oh Lord - mangey foxes grrr.
Poor Bis - but at least you have all the tools to help her get over this, and you were onto it quickly as well.
Do keep us updated on your progress; meanwhile >< >< to you both.

Aw thank you! I'm pleased to say it's pretty much cleared up now! Just have two more doses of Advocate to give over the next month and she'll be sorted She's dropped a little weight and is generally looking a little run down but she should be back on form asap!!
