Cake on reflection i may have over reacted ....

Post by sonics family Sat Nov 10 2012, 17:57

Just been out for a walk with sonic who is approaching 5 months and my dads cavvy who is 6 years old. anyway sonic was on her 100 foot lead as we are still working on recall! Everything was going well until an adult staffy came charging over the field and would not leave our two alone , it had its hackles raised and was growling so we pulled sonic right in and presumed the owner would call his dog bac, he shouted her name once and carried on walking, she then jumpe up my five year old son and just would not go away. in the end i clipped a lead on it and marched it over to its owner who's first words were 'don't have a go she is just friendly ' to which i kind of shouted a lot pointing out he has no control of the dog and should be more responsible....he told me she haunt bitten many dog to bu**er off at which point i kind of lost it went in to full on protective mum/owner mode..this guy was in his seventies and told me he had had dogs all his life and never before had he had a dog who listened to him.....i told him he was an irresponsible owner and if his dog touched my child i would not be responsible for my actions (at under 5 foot tall not exactly a grounded threat lol!) and walked off. now i have calmed down i.think i May have over reacted but at the time i was so cross..... think he will be giving me a wide earth in future!

You are a mum and a responsible caring dog owner clearly, no I do not think you overreacted as if this man feels he cannot do anything about his dog doing this sort of thing I worry for how many incidents that could cause! What did he mean he's never had a dog who listened to him?! Good god.

As a mum myself, I think I'd have probably done the same!

Never had a dog who's listened to him? Ugh. That says it all, doesn't it? Friendly or not, it is irresponsible. I mean, what if your kid was terrified of other dogs, or Sonic wasn't friendly? It could've easily been much worse than it was, and so I don't think you overreacted.

Me too!! I'm a mum, first and foremost I protect my family... I would have reacted exactly the same as you to his comments.

Hell no you were right... I always cringe when people say ive had dogs such and such years. Soo youve been a bad owner for 20 years that isnt something to be proud of. Ive known dogs 19 years and ill tell you now i know bugger all in the grand picture and learn from people that have had a dogs a few months...im not slow lol just understand we cant experiance everything...hate know it alls..
