Moo's progress

This is more for me and anyone that wants to give me positive vibes, I know I could do with it.

So the back ground for those who don't know, Moo has had a limp for a month now, been to the vets twice, apart from x-rays I am at my last point of call, a different course of anti-inflams for 14 days and total rest.

Day 2; stopped indoors all day, great day off, limp has been obvious in the house. Have put her very old bed on the floor (been under my bed for last 2 years) so she doesn't keep hoping up and down on mine.

Small incident of her running into the door (glass), she saw a cat, and she has a lot of energy to get rid of. Never has she done this before!

Just taken her out for a toilets, we don't have a garden so its a 2min walk, no limp visible.

She has now gone to bed, hers on the floor bless her.

Day 3 Morning; Had a really bad night, Moo is so agitated, she was up at 4 barking at the door, which certainly doesn't help jumping up and down off the bed!

Limp apparent, very short walk to toilets, and left her snuggled in bed, friend going round at 11 as I am at work, sometimes it makes it easier not being there and seeing her sad face.

I was hoping the anti in-flams would be kicking in now but its just gonna take time, and lots of it, that reminds me must phone the friend and remind him that she is not to spend the afternoon in the pub!

Fingers crossed some improvement when I get home. Thanks for all the positive thoughts, keep them coming ><

Poor Moo, it must be hard having so much energy and not being able to do much about it. But all in her best interests I hope she gets better soon.

Day 3 evening;

Spoke to my friend on the way home from work, no improvement at all, gutted to hear that.

Get home to a sulky girl, how would we feel being couped up all day.

She played a bit with her stag bar, had some dinner and lay in the middle of the floor. So sad.

I couldn't help but take her out for a small toilet walk (glad I did!), once there she dived into a bush (on lead) and had a very loose poo, she then dived back out and got the lead caught round the bush, for love nor money I couldn't get her to back up so I let her off to untangle her. So she then proceeded to bounce off, no limp at all when she is running about! I got her back onlead and she went to the grass and stood there trying to have a poo, nothing coming out, but it is slightly embarrassing that there where people sat on the bench (tbh I think they where homeless.)

So I now have a dog with a limp and an upset tum. I hope she is gonna be back to normal soon, I miss our fun times and seeing all your great pics makes me sad, and it makes me miss it even more, never take anything for granted, whatever the weather, enjoy your walks. Feeling a little frustrated and deflated.

Awww poor Moo ... must be sh!t nursing a normally very active staffy we have spoken about it happening with Max, and we honestly dont know how we'd cope if he couldnt excercise he is an extremely active dog with so much stamina, and Moo looks the same

Try not to think like that sweety, I know it must be hard but she WILL be fine you'll see ... is there any mileage in getting an x-ray to put your mind at rest ? tho I'm guessin its bloody expensive

I don't know what to do, feel pretty useless. Heart says have the x-rays done, head says what till the course is finished.

Something you said about Moo having no limp when you let her off lead made me hang something out here and I know it might not help at all, but here goes:-

When Kuchar was 4 months old we were finally allowed to walk him outside (yes we should have got him accustomed to the lead before then but there it is, we didn't). For some time, he hopped along on 3 legs, trying to scratch off his collar with a hind leg.

nearly 7 months later we have perforce to exercise him on a long lead (wanderlust! and chasing after other dogs). And I've noticed that sometimes he hops along on 3 legs - not trying to scratch off his collar any more, but one or the other hind leg being "hitched up". He doesn't do this off lead. Oh and btw, he doesn't have his collar on whilst in the house.

If this doesn't tick any boxes with you please forgive me for bringing it up; it's just a thought.

Aw sweet, hang in there. Big hugs for you and Moo, and loads of positive thoughts. Vets have amazing technology and drugs available these days, whatever it is that's wrong with her they'll do their best to fix her, it just takes time, which is the hardest part of the healing process. ><

Healing vibes from me and Pixee to you both. And dont cry, it wont help Moo, just make her more sad. Theres always the x rays if nothing else works. (Pixee also back to limping sadly and is on Metchap pain liquid pain killers from vet) Moo and Pixee must be tuned into one another. HOw is Moo this morning? ><

Dont mate it wont be forever, theyre made of flesh and blood and once the problem is diagnosed there is a fix for pretty much everything.
I know its heartbreaking seeing your best friend like that but hang in there for moo, despite the limp she is a fit dog which gives her an even greater chance at healing.

You have to let the course of treatment take place Janey so you can assess the results , hugs to Moo and keep your chin up ><

Janey, I think you need to get a diagnosis for Moo's limp to at least to put your mind at rest.

The anti inflammatorys are most probably causing the constipation, do you have some plain natural yogurt to give her, just a teaspoon or two. The link below gives some info on canine constipation:

Aww babe It's bloody horrible, I know the feeling all too well, Bis was off her feet for 6 weeks once other than quick toilet breaks after her surgery and it felt like it was never going to get better, but it did! Personally I'd have the x-rays if I could afford them, just because it would do my head in not knowing if it might come back or could worsen somehow.. and would be knowledge for the future too. But obviously that's personal choice. I found doing loads of mental training around the house helped to keep Bis slightly more sane, and just took her for car rides to friends houses and let her see all sorts of new things. Really hope it starts to get better soon! Keep your chin up honey x

Day 4;

God was I tired at work with the puffy eye thing going on this morning!

Well no improvement sadly, its just so strange because I popped home for my lunch and took her out (solid poo thank god) and her limp is barely visible when out, but as soon as she is indoors its really prominent.

My friend had her for the rest of the day, so at least she had company, I do worry that I am over doing it, but its only a 5min wander around a tennis court and bowls green, onlead, surely thats ok?

When I got in from work she is like a little old lady, but still so eager to play, and how do you stop a staffy unwalked for 4 weeks to stay calm? And why is she ok when out & about?

Still unsure to have the x-rays done, my next day off is wednesday so I think I will wait until then, she isn't in any pain, but as the vet said 'she has to be in pain otherwise she wouldn't be lame', not sure I agree, the more I think about it the less I liked the vet anyway, I used to have one that adored Moo, but she left the practice. But I'm not sure going to another will help anyway without having the x-rays. Its a bit of a circle I am going round in!

Anyway, tonight I'm not crying like a girl, and huge thank you for all your support, it means loads to us, keep thinking positive for us please Xx

I told you my story of Kuchar's 3-legged hop in the faint hope that Moo might, just might, have gotten into a habit of limping ( a "silly trick" as my dear old Grandma used to say").

Which leg does she limp on? Is it ONLY when she's at home?

Lynda thank you for your experience, I was a little down yesterday but it was very much appreciated, she hasn't been let offlead in 4 weeks and am well aware of the putting it on limp, been there before! This is different and I think I new from the onset it was, or is that me getting down again!

Steve she was on Metacam liquid, she is on Rimadyl tablets now.

she may damage her ligaments that may take months to fully recover from she need a x-ray to rule out any break

Hand on heart Steve its not broken, I know they have a high pain threshold but she is fine when walking, its when she is indoors that it shows (and atm that seems to be indoors 23 out of 24 hours as recommended).

I think I should do what I'm doing (which isn't a lot) until the last inflams are given and then it will be x-rays (week Wednesday), although from what I have read, they can come back clear, and than what do you do?

most vets are like our doctors you may have go to a leg specialist

i would tell you come up here and go to the vet i took my sam he the top leg specialist in the country and sorted my sam out straight away. he also care he dont rob you like some specialist do.

So glad your feeling a bit better mate. Tbh a second opinion would never hurt and you can be registerd with more than one vet. Riley spent three weeks with a torn crutiate ligament because the "best" vet around here didnt have a clue, first orderd a week with rest painkillers and anti inflamatories which actually mad him significantly worse. And then wanted xrays as thet wernt sure if it was hip or knee. Wont bore you with rest but he was registerd with new vet last friday with an apointment for monday afternoon. The new vet felt about his knee and diagnosed the ligament problem by touch and feel. Like popping bubble wrap apparently next day he was in and had op done.

So bearing that in mind i would get her checked over by somene else.
What ever you do i hope that darling girl of yours gets better soon and is fighting fit, you know ive always had a soft spot for her. Sending moo a hug and marley and laska send you big licks

Have heard of him and its all been about how good he is. You wont find anything bad said against the guy hes a true genius with dogs overall not just leg injurys.

i spend £1000s on my sam with my local vets i went to him he took my sam straight away fix the problem only time i need to got back was just for a check up but i could of gone to my local vet for that but i decide to go to him.

i will recommend him to everyone who got dog with a leg problem he get people from scotland going to see him..
