Wish me luck
I knew I was going to have a bad week with Bella this week, got home yesterday and the house looked like a bomb had gone of................. she chewed through the remote, and internet and tele cable, more of the wall, a paper and 3 magazines and stuffing out of the sofa arrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh lol, so this morning I covered everything in vicks vapour rub, hopefully it will work, Ive stopped the vinegar I think she likes the taste
If that don't work Im getting some bitter apple spray or apparently they don't like tea tree
She hates being left on her own but hey, god know wot my brother in law thought of the smell when he came home this morning

Re: Wish me luck
Crates aren't cruel things if they're used properly. I've had dogs for 42 years & this is the first crate I've had - I would always use one now! Dempsey was a terrible chewer & if it hadn't been for his crate overnight & when we went out for short periods I think he'd have ended up killing himself, literally!

I know what you are saying Caryll, but I think its personal choice, also she dosent do anything at night at all, she is as good as gold, also when we are home she is fine, I know it wont last forever just saying thats all xx

If Vicks doesn't work, I doubt that Bitter Apple will - it isn't as strong as Vicks!
I've never tried tea tree oil, but oil of cloves might work.

Re: Wish me luck
I was sceptical about putting a dog in a crate, having had dogs all my life, but after reading this forum decided to give it a try.
I hid some treats in the bed and tempted Bacchus in with a high value treat as soon as he arrived with us. We haven't had a sleepless night with him, very few "accidents" and he treats it as his own little refuge and goes in of his own accord when he gets tired.
It's also great for time-outs.
As you say it is personal choice but I am totally converted and would recommend it to anyone contemplating a puppy.

Wow. W-O-W. And you don't want to use a cage? I bow to your superior patience
Tea tree oil would definitely work. I add a couple of drops to water to help with my skin and the smell is ridiculously strong. Seriously, I think a dog wouldn't be able to stand it, it's such a strong smell

We have crate trained Duke and he is no problem in it , he goes in at night to sleep and if we need to go shopping he goes in , crate training can save a lot of unwanted damage and money

Same. But it has been a massive success. I have not had anything in the house damaged and I know Ralph likes it in there as he takes himself in there when he's had enough of me kissing him and prodding him!!!

Re: Wish me luck
we've had 4 dogs and never even heard of a crate before, but they are excellent, and noah uses his as a den and is quite happy in there, when we get up to go to bed and turn the lounge light off , he heads off to his crate and we head off to bed!!

Re: Wish me luck
not trying to push on you something you don't want but trying to convince you it isn't cruel.
Tilly and Tommy both had crates at a young age upstairs and downstairs, to keep them out of the way of the kids and safe and to limit damage and accidents. They are both out of them now, Tommy is a chewer but this is stuff he will do in front of us at least not stuff we have to walk into .
Alternatively can you not confine her to a big puppy playpen or 1 room in the house , say the kitchen with a child safety gate (this is what we do with Tommy now when we go out for a couple of hours and Tilly has the rest of the house as she is more trustworthy (also keep them separated in case they have a fall out)

Also think the word "cage" rather than crate infers something entirely different, but good luck anyway. As Dave says, not trying to push anything on you but we have found it such a boon with no damage whatsoever to the house.

Hubby won't have it!!!!!!!! I have been married for 46 years and in my experience there are two kinds of husbands......those who tell you they are the boss in their house......and those who tell the truth
